My Vintage 30 pile - Where is the line between enthusiasm and insanity?

Are you differentiating between Chinese V30s and British V30s ?

If there is one, I am too far away from it to see it.

Preparing to shoot over 50 V30s out with each other to find out what parameters really make the difference.
Production facility, production year, OEM version, luck?

This is neither enthusiasm nor insanity. This is golden scientific research. This can only get better if I get quad of them in the end lol

Do you have every version? My fav is by far the first version, mid-late 80s Marshall Vintage 8 ohm T3896....not as bright as the following 16 ohm 1991 versions. I have a 1988 JCM 800 slant with them. Killer.
Of the 8 and 16 Ohm versions I know exist I have all except the 16 Ohm black frame (T4297) and the 16 Ohm Dave Mustaine V30 (T5731). However the latter appears to have the same model number as the Tube Amp Doctor 25th Anniversary speaker of which I have three. I believe they could just be relabeled.
So yeah, I have various standard 8 and 16 Ohm models from all eras, especially the 8 Ohms (1986, 1991, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2016, 2018, 2019 and new).

i also have some Marshall OEMs in 8 Ohm (1989, 2010, 2017) and 16 Ohm (2001), some Mesa OEMs in 8 Ohm (2004, 2008, 2010, 2018) and 16 Ohm (2020) and two of the 8 Ohm Badcat OEMs (2010 and 2014).

The others are exotics like a pair of Marshall Vintage 30MFs (2002) and a pair each of the 1777 cone V30s made for Hughes & Kettner (8 Ohm from 2003 and 16 Ohm from 2001). I also have two black frame T4139s in 8 Ohm from 1992.
Two oddballs I have. A V30 from 02.1986 with the Marshall type code but Celestion label and a regular 2016 V30 that was made in the UK.

Are you differentiating between Chinese V30s and British V30s ?
I will be effectively as I will be comparing Marshall, Mesa and Bad Cat OEMs to regular V30s from the same year. After 2001 regular T3903 and T3904 models are usually made in China. UK made "regular models" after 2001 are very hard to find but they exist. I have seen maybe three in the last four years of collecting. I have one UK T3903 from 2016 and I will be comparing that to a Chinese T3903 also from 2016.

I'm really interested in this. I have 13 v30s between my cabs and storage. There are definitely differences, especially with my 90s versions. One in particular I have is significantly louder than the rest.

Fantastic! This should be a great listen when completed!

Are you going to be selling any when done?
Definitely! I can't wait to get rid of 15 to 20 when I am done 😂
