The 20th is not going to be tighter. It will be boomier though. You will need to look at some Eminence Governors or something because V30's might sound a bit papery and Governors can smooth out the upper mids a bit. It's going to need a much more specific speaker than the stock Shiva. The stock Shiva does well with a variety of speakers but the 20th does not in my opinion.

I disagree. The 20th is definitely tighter than the regular Shiva.

Yes. I dont know what that dudes listening to when he's compared these Shivas, but I can say from demoing them both with all kinds of speakers, pedals, and cabs... that most of what he's saying is way off. Spent a lot of hours with both amps and since Guitar Center didn't have a 20th w/reverb in, I got the regular Shiva. But then took back when they got a 20th w/verb in and did a bunch of ABing. Regular Shiva is a WONDERFUL amp for any vintage, classic rock, and blues tones, but I was wanting to get a little more of everything. And that's why I chose the 20th Shiva. It's tighter, a little smoother in the brightness, it's ballsier, CH 1 a little more clean, it's louder, the Ch volumes seem to balance out better, the Solo Boost is way better on the 20th and it can sound JUST like the regular Shiva which is a very good thing. That's all in my own opinion.

Welcome to the board and very cool rig!

What part of Western Kentucky are you from?

Congrats! welcome to the Bogner family. Can't go wrong with either the Shiva or the 20th.

Way off? Well while you were playing them at Guitar Center, I was owning them... dude. Well you're entitled to your opinion. I was just trying to be helpful. Enjoy your new "way better than" the stock Shiva 20th Anniversary. By the way, in about 2 weeks when you're trying to sell your Shiva 20th for a Carol Ann or Diezel or something, don't forget how your extensive experience with "all kinds of speakers, pedals, and cabs... at Guitar Center" led you to discard your Mark V and take back your stock Shiva for the 20th Anniversary.

Go rain on someone elses parade and chill. Just cause someones got different opinion than you you aint gotta get your panties in a wad bro.

Take it easy. You were kind of snooty about the helpful advice I was offering so I busted your little balls a bit. Don't take it personally. Congratulations on your score. It's a great amp and there aren't enough good quality demos of it. Maybe you can put out some sound clips to do the amp some justice. Who knows, maybe Bogner will finally post an audio sample of the 20th on their website. Enjoy your new amp bro.

Psychological Analysis of Just42Dave's Response:

Sexual frustration resulting from repression of homosexual thoughts and feelings which led to a projection of hostility towards a person of the opposite sexual orientation.

LOL. Yea seriously. It's the way you talk about tone Uberbutthurt. Like u know whats best for everyone. Chill and just LEAVE the thread.

Anyway, the Shiva sounded amazing at practice tonight. That solo boost really help get the solos out in the mix. And I dialed my mids up more on Ch2 and sounded so huge in a band mix. Back to Shiva talk for now, stop acting like children.

Yep I actually live in Calvert but work in Paducah.

I'm still hovering on the trigger for the 20thA-Shiva. KT88s are always a bit of a gamble for me, but I know these amps are just beauty. I own the 20th-X (EL34) and would love the Sheevs in the arsenal.

Personally, I kinda liked the step by step review of both amps by the OP. Just sayin'.

Mo

PS: Congratz on a killer NAD!!

Thanks man. Yea the Shiva 20th is a thing a beauty for sure. I actually just got done doing the EL34 mod to it (only clip one resistor and rebias) and I'm loving this amp more than any other amp I've ever heard for real. Just a great rockin amp and the cleans are so warm and beautiful. It's almost like there's some extra notes or musical angels in the amp giving you some little surprises every now and then too. I've been blow away. I'll hit some notes and be like.. Whoa that's what a musical amplifier is SUPPOSED to sound like.
