j/k on the (nsfw).

I just got this in the other day off of eBay.

I replaced all the pres, the power tubes are next. It has 5881's in it. I think it's modded or was hurt during shipping because it has such little gain. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I have the loop set to by pass and the gain dimed and it's giving me JCM 800 gain. :scared: The guy pretty much told me to go f' my self. The faux do I do? Can any of you tell if the amp has been modded or looks damaged in any way.

I'm liking the "general" tone it's giving and so far sounding better than any Recto I've owned, but it has almost no gain on the Red Channel. I can get a wee bit more gain from the Orange Ch if set to high gain and clone to red. Like I said think JCM800 gain.

I really dont see anything suspect, but its been awhile since I had a DR in my stable. I can assure you it should have way more gain than a stk 800 though... way more

By better sounding I mean:

It has more clarity in the tone over all. It's not as dark/muted sounding, ala blanket over the cab. My TOV was the first Rectifier that didn't have that problem. This new beast makes my TOV sound like it has blanketted Cab Syndrome (BCS). I still haven't used it in a band setting. My TOV sounds so massive with the band, I hope this one does as well.

Damn, I hope some one can spot something that's an easy fix.

Oh, and the cleans on this things are better than the cleans on my TOV. Something must be wrong. :aww:

I briefly had a Rev F Dual and it had a little more gain than my Single Rectifier. It does sound like something is wrong.

Could be a number of things causing the issue -- bad LDR, low voltage on the switching circuit (I've often seen the filter cap go), etc. In the new models FETs are used for the mute circuit and they go out often, though I don't think the older ones use FETs.

Looks like the last three photos didn't upload. If you re-post I may be able to spot mods.

Well, it seems the photos are just working intermittently.

I don't see anything suspect on the PCB. If you still have the chassis out, a photo of the back side of the front panel would be helpful.

NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of the front pictures I took came out. I need to get a friends camera so I can take good pictures.

I'll try to get some more asap.

Is it me or does this thing look likes it's been... almost rebuilt????? It "looks" like a lot of parts have been changed out.

DAMNIT!

Ugh.... aslong as it hasn't been modified.

Ah so you're the one that nabbed this, sweet!
Too bad you aren't near me, I'd help troubleshoot this for you, sounds like a suspect LDR, I had to replace all of mine last summer.

Another thing might be is that the screen grid resistors might be on the way out
Looks like the caps have been replaced but so far everything else looks stock.

Also, do you have your channels cloned to modern or vintage? Vintage has a little touch less gain.
Another thing to keep an eye out for is the cathode follower positions in the recto, which are V3 and V4, don't use Russian made (EH, Sovtek, Tung-Sol RI, Mullard RI) tubes in those positions as they can't handle the voltages , JJ's and Shuguangs are fine though.

Ok this part I don't get. V3 and V4 as in the pres?

I seen this one on eBay and thought it might be a scam because of the price. I looked through the sellers feedback and seen he purchased the amp with issues.

Here is the link to the listing with issues.

Just an FYI hope it helps you trouble shoot
