You can also bring it to a repair shop and see whats wrong with it. Then you'll know what kinda problems it has and the cost to fix it.

RJF":1h1ryyg3 said:Just box it back up and send it to Mesa. I've had two different Rectos worked on by them and they treated me right, even got to take a tour of the facility when I dropped the first one off. I actually had the same problem you have, very little gain. It's been a number of years, but IIRC it had to do with the channel switching system oddly enough. It was a 3ch Dual.
What you have there is a jem, a super low serial number, for a triple. I'd kill to find a mint one like yours. Let Mesa handle it, chances are better they will take better care with it and have it fixed like new with Mesa parts rather than an independent tech.
JCDenton6":1h1ryyg3 said:Hmm, looks like someone stuck an orange drop cap on the red gain pot, that's most likely why you have less gain, you would need the original 1nf orange tant cap on there.
I wonder what the rating on that orange drop is, and on the Rev F's the gain pots were at 250k
JCDenton6":1h1ryyg3 said:And what I meant by V3 and V4 are that the preamp tubes are labeled V1 through V5 (V5 being the phase inverter and V3/V4 being the cathode followers)
The cathode follower slots are higher in voltage than the other preamp tube slots.
JCDenton6":2cup110f said:Cool, in that case (I hope) the red channel should be a 1 meg pot as well.
With 1 meg pots you should have a shit ton of gain (I keep my settings around 9-10 o'clock)
JCDenton6":3ler1nte said:I can't say what their rates are but RJF would know since he's had some amps serviced by Mesa.
See if they can also stick 1 meg gain pots in there and revert the head to Rev C/D specs if you'd want to (I modded my Triple and confirmed it was done correctly via Mike B and George M at Mesa)
JCDenton6":2uyf5zme said:The Rev C is just a little bit brighter then the Rev D, but their tone and character is exactly the same.
The difference was so small that you turn the presence knob up just a tad and they sound exactly the same, probably a slight change is presence pot values between the revisions.
I think they charged me like $75 to fix that 3ch that I was speaking of. They are really reasonable, they stand behind their products.xiwiwix":1ahqc0dq said:JCDenton6":1ahqc0dq said:edit: does anyone know their rates?

As far as the differences between the revisions, Dude, run a google search. There is sooooo much info out there between the boogie board, here, Harmony Central, etc that it will keep you busy reading for hours. IMHO, there isn't much difference between C through F. The C & D are just worth a lot of money, thats the biggest difference.
