I started on a Marshall JCM800 2204. Great platform to begin with.

I am building a 2204 now. I've built 2 or 3 of each 800 and SL to varying degrees of success. I actually prefer building an 800 then modding it. It's a good starting point. The last 2204 I built I did the JEL mod to it but then I ended up putting it back to stock.

Long story short, this amp rips. Traded my 88 2204 for the molecular and some cash. Didn’t really know what to expect, but my curiosity was piqued.

Love at first chord. This thing kind of reminds me of a Friedman BE style circuit but with more saturation, the Marshall mods mostly left in tact, and a crunchier, punchier low end. I’m really, really digging it so far, and it’s got me curious about the real deal, though that is a pipe dream at this point.

I've built many amps, and A/B'd most of the common iron out there. There is nothing wrong with Ceriatone transformers these days, they are absolutely fine.
