I've read about how over-engineered they are. You know that single 2x4 you see in most 4x12 cabs nailed into the middle of the baffle between the four speakers that sticks straight out to brace against the back panel?

The Mills, instead of a single board, uses this:

They're so braced and overbuilt that you get minimal cab resonance and maximum direct speaker signal. It makes them really clear and direct sounding, amazing for high gain.

i wonder what the holes do?? my ibanez cab has a whole piece

Good question! I don't know exactly but if I had to guess, I'd bet they experimented with different levels of extra bracing and separation and arrived at the "holed square" design because it allows just a bit of all four speakers to resonate together without getting too resonant, and still provided a bunch of extra stiffness.

I use the holes to run speaker wire through. But yours looks like it would be a good stereo cab. Those words come bitter out of my mouth, because I would never use a cab that way, but..

I think you nailed it. They are built like tanks, and represent what they're loaded with very well. They are my favorite cabs by far, but can be a bit directional. I grabbed a few before they went out of business.

What is it about wizards that gets people's panties in a twist?

Let's hear your clips of whatever it is you think is better than an MC2 for hard rock like the op plays @CarlF
I know o sound like a fan boy but jeesh they are awesome . I think it’s the price people hate . They are priced ridiculous to be honest . But I love mine

See that makes total sense

But sound BAD? lol

I don't like friedmans, they're too smooth, and refined for me, but I would never say they're shit or bad, they're obviously good amps

I just would never pay that much for an overgained marshall flavor I feel like I can get with a pedal
All the amps we speak of good I think. Sole may not be for me but damn the variety now is killer

The point of the holed center baffle was to reduce/eliminate standing waves. It’s a different way to approach the same issue that Bogner does with their polyfill lined back panels.

Interesting. I’ve played 3 oversized Mills cabs and they were all by far the most room filling and least directional cabs I’ve ever experienced. Sounded the same dead on as they did at almost 90 degrees.

A lot of people talk about magic of the Mills cab. Or they say they are directional or boxy. Tbh, they sound great and are built great. But i have played shitty randall cabs, evh cabs, fryette, wizard. They all sounded great to me.

I ripped out all the wiring of mine. It was wired with 14 gauge solid core wire that was brittle. The jack was stereo, even though owner hated stereo cabs. I put a new mono jack, 12 gauge stranded wiring, and new speakers. The cab is mine. There isnt any voodoo to mine. Just a well made cab that is now wired correctly

You may be right, that's the complaint my friend had that plays live. He bought one on my recommendation, and that was his complaint. My amp room is so small, there is no such thing as directional, lol.

I used to have 3 Mills Afterburner cabs. Also had the normal size cab they made. They’re great cabs, just heavy and a pain in the ass if you’re moving them around.

Best speakers I ever had in them were Scumback H75/H55LDC mixed. Sounded incredible.
