This makes me want to accept one of those credit card offers I get everyday in the mail. OMG that is some tasty tonage!!

Sounds Great ! I want one..I'm curious if ch2 can get more of a vintage crunch without the modern flavor?

I'm 99% sure it can. Not gonna happen with EMGs though. Turn down the bass a bit and use some low output passives and you're there.

Alright, now that I've caught my breath, a few thoughts. Hagen vs. VH4:

Channels 1. They are both very nice. Nothing to see here, move on.
Channels 2. The Hagen is less bloated sounding/feeling IMO. Very nice and responsive sounding. Awesome crunch.
Channels 3. This is where its at for Diezels. The Hagen is very similar to the VH4, however, it has more juice/saturation available. To me the VH4 is a bit of a tease. Sounds great, gets you right to the edge, and then you need 10% more JUICE. The Hagen delivers. Current VH4 owners will know what I'm talking about. The Hagen can sound exactly like the VH4 but not vice versa. All IMO of course :D
Channels 4. Again somewhat similar but the Hagen is just 5-10% better IMO. The Hagen just holds together better even with gobs and gobs of gain.

I am spliting hairs to the nth degree here. They are both amazing amps. I just feel the Hagen is exactly what Peter wanted it to be. The next evolutionary step of the VH4. It really is, to me, a tricked out VH4.

The Herbert is a different being all together. Apples and oranges.

Sounds nice and thick but I'm always wondering about cutting in a live mix. Deizel's to me, having never owned one, have always sounded phenomenal in clips but live clips I've heard seem to get a little muddy. How would you compare the Hagen's "10% more juice" to the VH4 with a boost, especially something that give you a good mid boost/low cut like a tube screamer or similiar? I know you said you were a bedroom hack but give me your .02. Good sounding clips BTW.

A good quality boost could probably do the trick. The only pedal I have is the SD-1 and I hate it.

Vs a boost?? It's quieter, and warmer. And tone monster was totally accurate...the vh4 would take you to the edge, but the Hagen pushes you off...

@ToneMonster , what's up with channel 2 being my new favorite ?? It's insane! It's better than channel 3 right now...

Not sure about better, but all 4 channels are very, very nice. How long until your VH4 is for sale?

Hahaha! I don't know. I got into mine really late and wasn't able to get drummer loud with it. That happens today...Im probably going to keep the vh4 and run them both in a stereo rig at some point...right now it's a Hagen honeymoon...btw I just I personally was digging channel 2 more, if you turn the gain all the way up it's one of the best drive sounds I have ever heard..

Yes it is lovely. What are your thoughts on channels 3 and 4 vs the VH4?

Looks like a VH4 will be up for sale in the classifieds soon, eh?

Amps sounds great. I am still interested.

HNAD!!! (again) :D

Cool. Love is definitely the word! Totally agree bout channel 4.

Honestly, there's been a number of discussions about this - I believe the 'general' consensus is that the Herbert has 'at times' got lost in the mix; the VH4 has not. That is not to say one is better than the other, just different applications yield different results.

Maybe I am WAY out to lunch here, but I've not found the need, nor the want, to ever stick a boost in front of my VH4 when looking for cut. Maybe I should clarify - I'll use a clean dB boost such as the CAL Mk.4:23 Pro, sure, but I'd not stick a 9 or an 808 in front of it - ever. Especially when one considers the nature of what that stomp does - it clips and cuts the dangling bits of the frequency; the dangling hairy bits are usually what accounts for 'cut', as opposed to 'signal cutting' = compression.

Whatever. In short, the V's always cut just fine. The Herbert has had its complaints but still kicks all kinds of ass. And not having yet received my Hagen, I can't speak about it whatsoever. I can't say I think it's thin and buzzy though...but clips DO SUCK when trying to figure out an amp for real, no

clips sounded good, all channels seem to have nice tones and are usable from what ive heard.
im not sure if i will like this amp or not because i really really hated the vh4 but i really love my herbert and it sounds like the hagen is closer to the vh4, i guess it will save me alot of cash if it is indeed closer to the vh4.

Ya man, hard to say with the clips to date... :dunno:

I'm sensing there's some looser, gnawing, chewiness to it that wasn't present in VH4. Less compression, more knock and grind. That's just my take on it - the 2 Peters concurred. It's hard to use any adjectives to describe a sound as what each person hears is so different from one person to the next. Throw in production and mixing and it's anyone's guess, really.

But I'm going on blind (deaf??) faith with Diezel's products. They've not let me down to date, and I know the Hagen was created with versatility and a more 'playful' appeal to it than the rest of the line up.

Peace
Mo

Nobody will be able to determine what this amp sounds like without clips of Bark at the Moon and Unchained :checkthisout:
