Just picked up an Einstein 1x12 combo. One of the earlier ones I think. Serial # is 004/014. It's already been modified for mode switching via footswitch. Not sure if anything else was fucked with. But it sounds pretty good. :D Better clean channel than my VH4. The VH4 is a bit more sterile and compressed. The Einstein's clean channel (channel one mode 1) has a little more life and sag to it. Especially nice with the reverb. Channel 1 mode 2 is similar to VH4 channel 2. Channel 1 mode 3 rips at higher gain settings. Lots of growl and bite. And Channel 2 is that tasty Diezel high-gain, a la VH4 channel 3.

Great amp, Peter!

Definitely needs new tubes, though. Still has the original SED =C= EL34s that are labeled "Svetlana Electronic Devices, St. Petersburg, Russia." Must be the original ones that came with the amp. And amp is a bit noisy. Probably a microphonic preamp tube. I'm going to retube the whole thing. Oh, and bias was set at 84ma...

Congrats

I was so close of getting one a few years ago... and I'm still looking here and there for a Diezel mini rig :D

nice score!

had a friends einstein 50w head for a month or two at home
the ch 1 mode 3 actually sounded more like the vh4's ch3 (middy and crunchy), and the ch 2 like the ch 4 (more bassy and compressed)
wasn't noisy at all

Yeah I'm just waiting on some new tubes to arrive. Because there is a good amount of hum and buzz right now.

Congrats! Retube that sucker and you'll be all smiles. I have a 100 watter and it's the quitest amp I've ever played. All my buddies that play it are blown away at the lack of ground hum even at high gain levels. Try it on your 4x12 cab when you can too

Would love to. But the reason I bought the Einstein Combo was because my full-size rig is in storage. Moved to San Francisco recently and can no longer crank my stack. Living in an apartment now... :( My VH4, CCV, and 4x12 are on the other side of the country.

Yep. I might eventually have my stuff shipped here if I find a drummer to jam with and can get a rehearsal space somewhere.

Congrats on the new amp...

not to hijack your thread but you need to get a two notes torpedo live, and then can play your heads in your apartment at any time!

Was going to write the same thing... Two Notes torpedo live!!!

Never heard of the thing. I'll check it out, though.

On a side note, the pedal that came with the amp to switch the modes is neat. Has blue LEDs like the amp does, and it switches channels, master, and modes. Plus there's no power supply needed. Somehow it just works off the jacks on the back of the amp. Most references I've read have said this mod requires the pedal to be self-powered. So this one is different somehow.

Excuse my dumb self, but when you use one of these, where does the sound come out if there is no cab?

Excellent question good sir...

If you're using the load box, you can go direct into your recording interface which then connects to your computer...you can connect your headphones through a 1/4" jack on the front of the unit...or you can even connect your everyday speakers through the front 1/4" jack on the unit

Steve_K has a great setup where he is using some active monitors...pete thorn uses some of those atomic wedges if im not mistaken

Pretty innovative product and a helluva way to get the master volume up and still play at 2am

Also, if you don't want to use the loadbox, you can just go direct to your cab like you would normally. Check out the demos on their website, its totally worth it.

Sounds pretty cool! I could use my Studio monitors if I wanted then, or my Heil recording mic.

you could definitely use your studio monitors...i dont think you'd be able to use your recording mic though...unless you were going out of a cab.

If you're using the load box which will reduce the volume, you can go directly to your studio monitors (or recording device). The two notes has 40+ cab models and 8 different mic models (all the majors used in studios) that you can adjust settings for (i.e. how far the mic is placed, what angle etc.). So really you'll never need to mic again (at least I won't cause i sit at home and record stupid shit for myself and am a novice when it comes to recording). If you're somewhat proficient at recording and mic'ing then yea i suppose you might want to mic yourself. It's a great product and definitely worth trying. Plus they have their own subforum right here on rig-talk so you can ask the guys who made it any questions at all :D

I wish mine did that. Any info on who did the mod? I'd love to not have to have a power supply hooked up to mine.
