Do you get any popping with that Edcor when you hit standby?

No sir. It acts just like it was from the factory.

Awesome! I run mine at 60 watts with 2 x 6L6s. I've owned it since the year they were introduced in 2004. It's a very thick, aggressive and tight amp, and always has been. Your Ultra and Crunch channel settings are actually very close to mine.
How hard is it to swap out the knobs?

The knobs just pull off. Sometimes they will be a little stubborn, but it isn’t that bad at all to switch them.
Holy crap, I thought you had to loosen them from inside the chassis lol! Do you know the shaft diameter?

3/16” is the shaft diameter. I have part numbers from peavey for white and black chicken head knobs. For the best fit, I’d recommend going through them. They run 50-60 cents a piece

Hey do you have the part number for the white knobs ? I surely would appreciate that, I just got a JSX in pristine condition, and I love how your amp looks with those white knobs

Peavey Part number - 30905066 . Not sure if they have superseded it or not. The last time I ordered them was about a year ago or so. They can still access the part based off that number though

Just found out the JSX I bought has 6CA7 power tubes, anybody has tried these tubes before ? How was your experience with them and how you compare them to other power tubes ?

I dig those. Big and beefy sounding EL34. They killed in my Triple XXX.

I just recently picked up a mint triple x 2 12 combo,(mark 1) sounds killer in all channels. Im not a high gain guy so I put a 12au7 in V1 and now I'm in the classic rock vibe. I run 6l6 in that amp. Then a few weeks later a traded a friend for his JSX head running el34 once again a killer sounding head. I run that head through a 2 12 cab with a greenback and a v30 speaker.Very under rated amps and to me the 90s were Peaveys golden years.

Hey, I've got a JSX that was just laying around. And I'm very interested in some of the mods you did here. Any chance you could give me some more info? I like this Mesa mode idea. I would love to do this.

Thanks,

Mark

Well it’s new to me anyways haha. I got this amp from napalmdeath and have to say this amp was clean as hell. I was very impressed with how well maintained the amp was. Needless to say, I got this amp to modify and after making sure everything was good with it I got to work on it. The bulk of the mods was some circuit changes I made from ideas Kyle Rhodes gave me years back. They tightened the amp up quite a bit and gave it a gnarly midrange grind while killing off some of that cocked wah midrange these amps inherently have. I also ended up changing the amp from el34, to a quad of JJ 5881 power tubes. Rounding the mods out was a mini toggle on the back to kick it into what me and Kyle called “ Mesa “ mode, and adding a choke. Looks wise, as much as I loved the carbon fiber, the amp seemed to be a bit hot inside the chassis so i took a spare rear grill I had with the big honeycomb design and modified it to fit the front. I also added my trademark white chicken head knobs

Best looking JSX I've seen. Vastly underrated amp even in stock form.

I had mine back in maybe 2005? Ish. Pulled 2 our tubes and ram it with the 6L6. Thing was a beast. The chug was fantastic. What I remember the most was the clean had huge headroom. Piercing past 4. I got rid of it about 2013 after my divorce. Just to purge my world I guess. Then did stupid shit buys for about 4 years.

Yep, had one years ago as well. In fact I moved from the OG5150 to the JSX for several years until I moved back to Marshalls. I preferred them with 6L6's as well.

What's funny is that all the high dollar amps I've owned like Soldano, VHT's, Bogners etc... the amps I still wish I had in my collection are things like the JSX or the Laney GH50.

Yeah. I think I am fool to have gotten rid of it but hindsight is….. 😕

I've still got a JSX 212 combo, running EL34s. Even stock it's a great sounding amp. Definitely some Marshall lineage, plus a really good clean channel. Loud as fuck though, and heavy.

I bought it and a road case so I could just leave it on the trailer to roll in and out of the venues. Otherwise it's a little cumbersome to lug around. It and a pedal or two for tone shaping can cover a lot of ground. I could see moving the chassis into a headshell to make it more manageable.

I concur. The JSX is one of my all-time favorite amps. I've owned 3 or 4 of them. Owned 3 or 4 GH50L's too. Killer amps!

I have looked at pricing on the RV last night while drinking. They are relatively cheap… including the 2x12 combo which would be a kick ass club amp.

Most are local pickup only. Nobody wants to ship those heavy beasts. Even the heads.
