Do you still have it? Does it basically sound the same as a JCM the way you described using it in your OP?

No, it's a bit darker than a JCM, and warmer. The EQ is much different. But, it's 100% Marshall roar.

Congrats on the amp.
I will say, after having an original model, one of the full wattage reissues, and playing some of the lower watts, old and new...
I just don't get the SJ thing.
Guess I don't gel with their darker nature.
I prefer a stock 2204 and Friedman JJ100, or even Runt 50, to a SJ.
BUT!!! Many folks love them. Some Joe B dude apparently smoked thru one. Some dude from Black Crowes used them on that first tour, though I prefer the other guys tone. Some dude with a dumb name like Rash or Stash supposedly utilized them in one of the greatest rock bands ever.
So congrats, and happy flip day in the near future.
