Picked this up recently: '82 Marshall 4010. Purportedly bone stock, which looks right. An upside down JCM 800 2204 circuit in a slightly smaller chassis, put into a 1x12 combo cab with a Celestion G12-65. RAWK.

On to the pictures. Please excuse the baby toys. They've taken over.

Killer score man, I'd love one of those if I can find one!

Thanks. Loving it. Hard to believe, but it's the first Marshall that I've actually owned.

I have the same amp. It's my number 1. Even better with a weber legacy in it.

Butcher it up! Mod it now!

Joke. PLEASE do not mod it!

Congrats

This guy is staying stock and unmodded. Really impressed with it. Big sounding combo with more gain than I was expecting from a 2204. Great Marshall rock tone that I can carry in one hand.

Thing will peel paint off the walls, too. Damn it's loud.

Nice amp, looks in great shape. Any plans to do an electrolytic cap job on it?

Guess it might need it, over 30 years old. Seems to be running reasonably quiet, but I confess I don't know much about amp maintenance beyond very basic power tube biasing.

So what does it sound like?? ;)

Kinda like this:

Crappy iPhone recordings. Lousy player. Sounded better standing in front of it, but not a terrible recording, I don't think.

Internal G12-65 speaker disconnected. Ran through a Marshall 1965B cab instead. Settings:

Gain: 6.5
Volume: ~2
Treble: 4
Mids: 8
Bass: 6
Presence: 1

If you have no ghosting issues you will not need a cap job. Those caps are very sturdy and if they are ok they might well last another 20 years.

Wow...that just brings back some memories. I had exactly one of those back in the early 80s as a teenager. I loved that amp! I took it in for a re-tube and it was stolen when the store was broken into. Was a sad day.

Happy to see you have one!

:)

That sucks man. You've got some cool stuff now. I'm a fellow Ibanez addict. All the clips above used a stock RG7621. My J-Custom as all the way across the house, so I used what was laying nearby.

Sounds great and ballpark gain wise what that thing turns out stock. For the 80's stuff though i'd say bring that presence up to 5 or so if you are going to back off the treble just to get some cut!

Yeah, that was the first time I plugged into that cab with the amp. It's brighter with the internal G12-65 speaker. Came out a bit dark with the 1965B with the G10-35L speakers. Oh well.

Never played with booster/OD pedals before, but picked up an SD-1 today. All I can say is

can't beat that combo - Tubescreamers are pretty fun with those amps too

Cool. I have a Maxon OD9 Pro Plus on the way to me to play around with, too. The bright spot of owning an AFXII for a while was the JCM800 sim boosted with the OD808 Mod drive block. Hoping the real deal will be just as much fun. Not sure I'll keep both the SD-1 and the Maxon, but we'll see I guess.
