Mark is a class act and guy knows tone. Bought an R8 from him a few months ago and got to plug into one of his amps up at his shop. There are lots of “modded Marshall” type amps out there but a majority of them—IMO of course—don’t sound as good as the real thing with a good boost. Mark’s does. OP congrats on a great amp!
That is the thing. A lot of us are Marshall fans. We think about buying an original with all the good and bad that comes with that. You have a few amp builders making clones of the originals like ceriatone and Granville. You have a ton of guys making modded hot rodded versions.

I think what Mark is doing is subtle. Taking what works and doesn't work with a marshall and just tweaking a bit. plus you get a more reliable amp than a 40 year old amp (that has arguably been reliable to this point). The amp is tight, but no one is going to call it ice picky or unnatural.

Yup! If I didn’t just buy a Fuchs ODS and Mark III I’d have one on order now. Clips!

Happy NAD!

Seems like a cool amp. Looking forward to hear soundclips.

Does Mark play his guitar’s through this amp?
Does he tune these amps himself?
I get it about Leo….
Les Paul’s name is on YOUR guitar for a damn good reason!

I always like Les Pauls and despised fenders. Finally got into the V, decided I wanted a Jackson. But fender owns Jackson. So I have a fender Jackson. I think at this point nothing is what it was. But I never disliked fender because Leo didn't play guitar. It was a style, and single coils? gross.

The answers to your 2 questions are, Yes & Yes. Many hundreds of hours sitting in front of an amp chassis on top of a Marshall basketweave straight front 4x12 cab w/ 25w Greenbacks. 1952 Les Paul burst conversion w/ original PAF pickups. Voicing with PAF's is more open and unforgiving so you hear more of everything, good and bad. High output pickups can sometimes mask issues. If it's good with the weaker pickups, higher output pickups usually fall in line pretty well.

I want to say I have settled on an EQ that is quite similar to what JImmy seems to be using in his vids. Presence-6, Bass-6, Mids-5, Treble-6, Master-5, Preamp-8. I will say the preamp at 4-5 is also good, and that is what I like. In any amp, I turn the preamp gain to where i first start to hear the amp, then continue until the bass register comes into it's own, and it doesn't sound thin. I also just used the master at about 3 for this recording which put it at about 105 decibels.

Love the clean chiminess if that’s the right word…

The distortion is just straight up and in your face too, awesome!

Yeah. I got a new interface so recording was a fucking pain in the ass. the cleans were micd to the side of the cabinet by a rode k2, so no close action whatsoever, and maybe some natural reverb. And I was having trouble getting levels right on the close mic distortion part...Absoulte nightmare. But I am over it for today. Thanks for the kind words.
