Tungsram for me. In every amp's PI spot. I read long ago here that it's great in 2204s...but it seems to work in every amp I've owned. Even better than a JAN 12AT7.
Absolutely bro, I agree 100%…
NOS Tungsrams in All positions but the phase inverter for me… I like the nos Telefunken in the PI
Those Tungsrams from the ‘60’s are insanely great tight Tubes!
Love ‘em!!
I have an MTL on the way and it will quickly have nos ‘60’s Tungsrams in V1-V5 with nos Tele in V6...
...ok, I will try Tungsram in V6 also👍😉

Nice score !! I gotta Wizard mc2 from one of a coolest member here and the Wizard MC2 rips !!! It surpassed my VHT and Diezel dream !!! Yes Rick is the man !!

See, this is the problem. I bought my first Suhr guitar two years ago. Now I have 5. I'm starting to sense I may be running into this problem with Wizard now as well. After getting a taste with this older MC, now I'm really curious about the MC2.

How's the loop return master on the MC2? My non-loop MC sounds glorious, but it basically goes from off to holy shit in volume. That's great for stage volume, but with COVID, not exactly a lot of stage time going on at the moment. It'd be cool to have the option to run the preamp a little higher and bring the return back down.

I think it works really well. I have a short cable in the loop and knock the volume down using the send/return levels.
Loop on: quiet and polite, Loop off: F-16 takeoff at @ 500ft away.

The loop send/return knobs allow you to create a very smooth volume taper on the master. I use an eq in the loop as well, and between that and the send/return I can get amazing low volume tones with smooth transition to gut punch volumes and everything in between. Others disagree, but the Wizards I've owned with Loop send/return have been the best low-moderate volume amps I've owned. I still get the girth, punch and that coming apart at the seams tone like the power section is pushed, but at reasonable volumes.

Sorry for the late reply, but i guess few of the members here who own the Wizard will chime in and give more of their insights , but in my personal opinion the loop didnt really help in tone for bedroom venue...

i felt the tone is better when you tune the volume up at bedroom level using the channel volume alone.. its just that good enough but just a matter of control over ya volume controls to find the right spot... i felt the tone being abit lack of balls without the proper master volume (power section) sets in, but you getta nice thick tones that has lesser balls and brightness... same as i do with my Diezel Herbert and VH4 i will crank the masters up to 1300hrs and wind down the channel volume, with this i get wider tone more brightness aggressive and better tone..

if Rick could add in a master volume to open up the power section that be more versatile ?

Congrats on the new amp. Looks awesome. Koko boost is a killer pedal and pairs very nicely with Wizards. I use one with mine as well and it has seen a lot of other OD pedals come and go...even the Wizard Leopard. lol
Agreed, same here!
I said I know the Leopard will be the first to send the koko packing...NOPE

I didn’t really like the Leopard with my Marshall’s or Wizard MTL, but it’s killer with my iic+ and other mark amps and also pretty good with my Triple Rectifier Rev F/C

You're exactly right about bedroom tones being tough when plugging straight in. However, if you play with an eq in the loop and a boost out front as I do, the loop send/return will work wonderfully to bring the amp volume into bedroom useable territory. Like I said in my post above, by doing this the amp will still get you a relatively girthy, punchy, full tone similar to as if you had had it cranked up, but at reasonable volumes.

Plugged straight in, I agree that these amps need to be opened up LOUD to sound like what you expect them to sound like.

Nice metalmike !! Any recommendation on the EQ pedal your using? Appreciate !

I use an MXR 10 band or a Empress Para eq. Either work, but to my ears the MXR sounds more natural. The Para is still great, just different. The Para can dial in a HUGE low end response on the MCII if desired. It can add some sub low frequencies the MXR can't.

I also like the MCII best with greenbacks or heritage greenbacks the most so far. The lower efficiency lets them break up and thump harder earlier than other speakers I've tried. They also add a little grit which may or may not be desireable...I like it. I've been comparing the EVH greenback/heritage mixed 412 I have with a new FB412 loaded with Fane 70s and the EVH is a clear winner for me. Sounds bigger, more articulate, thumps MUCH harder, moves more air. Despite the EVH being rear loaded and the FB being front loaded, I hear no significant difference in how both cabs sound in terms of aggression and tightness. The FB412 disperses sound to the sides a bit more, but the EVH sounds bigger, more 3D.

Nice!!! Looks fucking awesome

Maybe consider getting a Fryette Powerstation; it'll give you a loop and solve the issue of the touchy master volume

Looks like you're back in this neck of the woods now and have a head to go with the cabinet....I'm still Wizard 4x12 curious. If you want to hear another Wizard hit me up, we can hook up and you can give the MC25 a whirl...

Happy for you that you finally got one of your dream amps. Enjoy man. That thing is a monster...a mans amp for sure!
