I had a Naylor SD60 a while back. Great amp but just a little too dark and smooth for me.
I have a Marshall Super Lead modded to Naked specs years ago by Dave Friedman and it's absolutely amazing. Big bass, tight, still cuts. Better than the Naylor no contest. I really love the sound of it. I will say it sounded so-so and was super dark when I first got it. It had all stock value Marshall pots in it. Naylors use totally different values and have added resistors in specific spots. I changed them all over the correct values and components which completely changed it. It came alive and it's the perfect blend of smooth, yet cutting tone.
The Naked is a Naylor preamp with a stock 100w Marshall power section. However it still uses the Naylor presence and NFB circuit, which is the part that mostly makes a Naylor a Naylor, imo.
I've considered doing the mod on another Marshall with just the OD channel, no clean, but I don't have any donors handy.
