I was hoping to be really impressed with this amp, but it isn't really doing much for me so far. It doesn't sound bad at all, but I was thinking I would like it a lot more. It doesn't sound as thick as my 5150 and doesn't have that crunch that I really love. I didn't try it with a boost yet though, so maybe that will help. Anybody have some suggested settings or anything? I'll give it a few more days, but I'm probably going to end up selling it. Oh and this is one of the PTP ones if anyone is interested.

Badass Sounding amp, you are crazy. Makes your 5150 look like a dwarf lol

Indeed, but the 5150 dwarfs it in tone. ;) :D

well, in mako's defense...everything pales in comparison to the mighty 5150 in your eyes ( and ears) so your statement really doesn't surprise me at all.
i don't blame ya tho...the 5150's are bad muthafukkaz when it comes to brutalitaaah. i been thinkin bout gettin another one myself, altho, i do wanna try one of these dorado's too. fortunately, my financial situation makes this decision a lot easier since there's no way in fuk i could afford a dorado.

Nah, not everything "pales in comparison" to it, I just like it more than any other amp I've played so far. I've really liked a lot of other amps though. Blackmore, XTC, Einstein, Mark III, even the Krank I had was cool. I just was really expecting the Dorado to blow me away, and it didn't.

How come you've never owned a MKIII or MKIV? They would be right up your alley...

A friend of mine owned a Mark III for a while and I played it a lot. Cool amp, but it didn't seem to sound as good in lower tunings as it did in standard.

different strokes for different folks.. there's nothing wrong with that. for example, i'd rather participate in j666's avatar than 1-1 in your's, mega ;)

That amp looks huge!!!  Is it wider than the cab?

Who did you buy that from. Was that Dimebag11's?

Had I not already bought 2 amps this week I would have been interested. :aww:

It is massive, it's longer than my cab. :scared:

I bought it from Taco2004, who had bought it from Dimebag11.

^lol That's the amp I was going to buy from a guy who lives near me (in Austin) Dimebag bought it before I could get up there and check it out. That amp is well traveled.

Mako's seem to get a few guys who just love them and other's who can't stand them. I liked the Makoplex, but not enough to own one. I do get a kick out of how massive the transformers in them are.

Mark needs a MarkIV :D Seriously though, with the EQ you can dial in some serious thick tones for that detuned stuff that you like. I like the MarkIII's but since the IV has independant channels that would probably be the better route for you. And with Tweed, Class A, you can get it down to some really low wattage for home playing.

I'm sure I'll own a Mark IV someday.

Mark series amps EXCEL at lower tunings. I can see it not being your thing, but unless your friends amp was messed, it should have done lower tuned stuff great :gethim:

I just thought it sounded better in standard tuning. It sounded fine in low tunings, but I didn't think it was anything special for low tuned stuff. Cobrahead1030 owns that amp right now so he can tell you it's not messed up.

I always think it's kinda funny when people just assume because an amp is tight, that it's gonna be great for low tunings. I don't find that the case at all. Just my opinion though.

I found that with the Dorado, I could get one really awsome tone out of it. I had to have the settings just right. If I moved anything even slightly from "the sweet spot", I'd lose it. I hated that. But I thought the tone I got when I had it set just right was pretty awsome.

Do you remember what settings you used? I know we play different styles, but your clips were good and would possibly help me find a better tone.

No, I don't, sorry. You do have the loop cranked all the way right? Or is it all the way down? I can't remember. It's one or the other though, just so you know. It's designed that way. I thought I kept my midsaround 11:00, depth kind of high, hmmmm......shit, I don't recall man.
