I'm just gonna get right to the point and say that this amp is exactly what I was looking for. I read a ton of bad reviews but just took a chance because it was cheap and seemed to be what I was looking for. It took me all of 10-15 seconds to dial in a really nice tone on the OD2 channel with my OD808 in front, and I basically left my settings the same all weekend too. Sounds awesome for the newer style Iron Maiden tones I was looking to get, which makes me real happy. The amp does sound kinda dull without a boost, but I love it with the OD808. Obviously it doesn't sound huge like a half stack, but I really like the tone. The clean channel also sounds pretty sweet and the reverb isn't half bad either. Didn't really mess with the OD1 channel at all. I also bought some new tubes for it so I'm guessing it'll sound even better after I put those in. Overall I'm real impressed with this thing and somewhat surprised I like it so much. Anyways, here's a video clip of the OD2 channel boosted with my OD808. Sound quality isn't the best, but I think it sounds pretty good.

Sounds pretty good dude! How does it sound at really low volume?

:lol: :LOL:

I honestly didn't even try it at really low or really high volumes. I just set it to where it sounded good and really didn't even mess with it. I think I had the channel volume on about 2 and the master volume around 3 or so.

That's alot of gain with that boost pedal on, sounded pretty good. :thumbsup:

haha kickass! and my 2 fav maiden songs! 2 minutes to midnight and the wicker man! :rawk:

That guitar is 'teh secks'!

Haha, indeed it is. It sounds awesome. :rock:

at really low vol levels, you crank up the two preamps and set the master as low as you want, and it screams ( I have had one of those for years now)
amazing great sound and response for recording like that. at higher vol's you may find you need to dial back a bit on the preamp as the el84's have a great wound up sound of their own. (I would reccomend a mullard clone in v1, and jj's for the power tubes. I have tried ei's, eh, gt's and none of them sounded as good in the power section imo)
also, the stock speaker in mine is a celestion gold back 100 watter. not bright enough for my tastes, but the amp really shines with a v30 in there.

I went with Doug's suggestion of JJ EL84's in the power section, a Tung Sol Reissue in V1, Penta Labs in V2, JJECC83S in V3, and an EH in V4. I was also gonna get a V30 for mine, but I like the stock speaker so far, so no reason to change it yet. :thumbsup:

Just saw the vid :rock: Sounds awesome man, love the guitar, I hope you hold on to that one

just put my second matched quad of jj's from doug in mine a few weeks ago. He doesn't live too far from me, so I usually just go there and pick them up. Dougs a great guy.
I didnt try that set up in the pre, maybe I will give him a call and pick up a few more tubes :lol: :LOL:

Sounds pretty good, better than I remember my DSL401 sounding. I will admit when I owned the DSL401 I didn't know what boosting was, even though I owned the a Maxon OD-808. I just used it for an overdrive into the clean channel at times....

Yeah, my OD808 is modded as well. I've had it for 3 or 4 years. Incredible for me. :lol: :LOL:

Congrats Mark! Clip sounds cool! I'm glad you found an amp for college.

woot! so you got an amp that you will keep for 2-3 days :D Ive seen some dsl401's go cheap but I always stay away since they get such a bad reliability rap it seems like.

Sounds good Mark!...what mods have been done to your pedal?...did you have it done or DIY?

Thanks man! Lordovchaos modded my OD808. I got the Chaos Mod for it.

"The Hugh Jass MOD

As the name implies this mod gives your pedal a bigger bottom! Overdrives have a filter that cuts out the low end below a certain frequency. I and many others think that this frequency is too high and doesn't really let the low end of your tone shine through ESPECIALLY if you downtune or play a 7-string! It still cuts out a little bass, that's part of why an OD pedal tightens up your tone. I just think that it cuts it out in the right place with this mod. Your pedal will sound fuller, bigger, thicker, fuller, and more powerful vs. stock.

Chaos Mod

The Hugh Jass mod, and more!

* More clarity
* BIgger, tighter, more refined bass response
* Improved dynamics
* Cleaner tone when the drive is at zero, great for a clean boost!
* Better sounding, fuller, more tube-like clipping
* More available volume to hit your amp HARD!"
