It was fun while it lasted anyway.

Fried Resistor from a bad Power Tube.. Jumper it with some tinfoil..

How loud were you playing?

That sucks. FWIW - I've had several VHT/Fryettes, but the CLX is the one I've always wanted to try...so congrats anyways.

I had it turned on for about 5 minutes, barely played it before I heard weird clipping and saw a tube pop. Immediately turned it off and saw this. Seller said the tubes were brand new.

DO NOT jumper it with some tinfoil. LOL

Take to a qualified amp tech. Or if you wan't to DIY, discharge the large caps. Clean up the area with isopropyl alcohol, repair any traces, and replace the resistor with the correct value.

Dude that is nuts. Sorry to see this man, hope you manage to get it repaired.

That sucks! I had a similar thing happen to an amp recently and repaired it myself. Wasn't as extensive as yours by the look of your pics, but mine had a PT take out a screen grid resistor. Was a $2 part and a little bit of my time. Have to no your way around an amp a bit though to make sure your discharging caps as mentioned above. Good luck!

Steve himself repairs these.I wouldn't think of anything else but the very guy who built the amp would guarantee it'd be kicking butt 100% as new..He went over my clx( it actually made premier guitar article & his intsagram) .
GC had it so screwed up after 4 of " thier guys repairs " I called vht, after pulling GC's manager aside to show them the rats nest mess their tech made.
My clx just screams vht tone now!! Can't say enough good about Steve and staff!

Dude is lying about new tubes...
It's an easy fix, plus a new set of PT's..

SO, you think the seller bought new tubes to sell the amp??
I don't.
Most amp whores take the opportunity to off their shit tubes when they flip the amp and keep the good ones for themselves..
Kinda crazy to play and amp with known good tubes to have it burst into flames after 5 minutes. That's barely enough to tune up and turn a few dials..

No matter what, it doesn't change the outcome. I'd contact the seller for a monetary solution..

Not necessarily. I'm just giving benefit of the doubt, since it is possible for new tubes to go out. Not only is it possible, it's pretty common these days.

I agree about contacting the seller for a partial refund, no doubt.

Most things live out their service life and most of the ones that don't were bad from the jump and failed early. Tubes are like that. If not mistreated they usually either fail early or live out their service life.

That sux about the amp OP. I had that happen to a little Velocette I sold. He shipped it back and I refunded and it is still sitting in that same corner. I'll get to it one day.

Shipping can easily ruin new tubes. Seen it quite a bit on brand new amps.
