I sold my Ultra & Matrix poweramp to a guy. He was between 18 & 20. Massively into his djenty, down-tuned prog wank. He came along with his dad.
When I demo'd the unit for him, I gave a him a massive lesson about the unit's capability, its global settings to optimize studio/live setup, axe-edit, simulation etc & how it ran with the matrix poweramp. Neither of them had the slightest idea what I was talking about. They didn't realize that the unit itself didn't actually make any noise. They didn't even know what a pre-amp was. Towards the end of the demo I kinda had to point at the AFX and say "that's a preamp" then point at the matrix & say "that's a poweramp".
The dad was saying 'Do we need a speaker for it'? He started mentioning to his son that he had some old hi fi speakers he could plug it into. It was kinda embarrassing.
I did take their money, naturally
, but I felt guilty doing it. I had to really stress to them how deep the unit was. It was clear to me that neither had the slightest clue what they were buying.
I was like "look, this is a seriously deep piece of equipment. I'm getting rid of it because it's too sophisticated even for me & I know what i'm doing with it"!!
