Well yesterday was speaker swap day for my TM212.
Tried out a WGS Retro 30, and Reaper HP as a combo. Sounded really good if you are doing classic rock / clean stuff mainly. Heading into SL2 / EG5 territory, I really didn't like it at all. So then I tried 2 Blue Dogs. Sounded great, but just a bit dark for my tastes (I'm running 2-75 watt ceramics with pre-rolas). So I then threw a Silver Bell w/ the Blue Dog in there, and it sounded AMAZING. Sounded similar in tone to my CL80 / G12T75 combo, but more warm mids, smoother, but still chimey top end, and the same "chugga chugga" that the CL80 / T75s can do. The Webers are definitely more articulate than the Celestions which is the biggest difference.
What I've found so far w/ these cabs, is every speaker sounds great in the TM212. I'm just honing in on what I really like mostly. I've tried Scumbacks, George Scholz, Ear Candy Speakers, Webers, Celestions, EVM-12L's, etc and ALL of them sounded awesome in the TM212 (well
the EVM 12L's wouldn't fit...but I tried that speaker in my 1x12 Mojo cabinet).
What I've found, is that the Webers and Celestion combos sounded best for the diverse modules I have. I look for speakers that sound great across the spectrum of DLX, BMAN, COD, SL2, EG3/4, VX, and EG5. Some speakers were good for clean...some were better for high gain. The Silver Bell / Blue Dog and CL80 / T75 combos were the only speaker sets I've found so far that are neutral enough to make ALL modules sound equally good. Granted I'm not looking for an "exact reproduction" of a AC30, or SLO100, etc. I'm just looking for good "all around tone."
So, where that leaves me, is I'm going to grab another Silver Bell and a Weber 12M next. I'm going to see how 2 Silver Bells work in the TM212, and see how the Weber 12M (with pre-rola treatment) compares to the Blue Dog. I'm going to try the 12M in my 1x12, and also in my TM212 w/ a Silver Bell. Depending on the results from there, is how I will go.
The Webers I actually like more for Egnater stuff than the Scumbacks. The Scumbacks for me, which sounded AWESOME by the way...were not "neutral" enough for me to get the clean tones - mid gain tones - high gain tones across the spectrum for me. The Webers I felt reproduced what the module was shooting for the best.
Best Weber I've played to date is definitely the Silver Bell. For guys that like a bit darker tone, the Blue Dog is awesome too!!!
I've realized that the speakers I compare EVERYTHING against is a Blue Dog, Silver Bell, CL80, and a G12T75. I like all of those speakers A LOT! Nothing else for me has stacked up to those 4 speakers.
