New Egnater Mod 50 in da house!

Thanks dooods...The Mod 50 is amazing!

I am running the Mod 50 into a Diezel 4x12 cab with vintage 30's and an axe-fx ultra for processing...Ridiculously great tone! I am really bonding with the VX module. You can run a strat on channel A with modulated delay and nail Edge's tone, flip over to channel B and slay Brian May type tones. This module just freakin' kills!

Just curious: How do you have the Mod50 and Ultra connected? Are you strictly using the Axe for FX only? No amp sims at all?

Dave

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but I am gonna ask anyway: Why would you buy a Mod-50 and then use an amp simulator? An Egnater is the kind of thing those things try to simulate, and most of them don't do it very well to my ears. It seems to me the point is to buy the modules if you really want good simulations.

He's just using the Afx for the effects in the loop of his mod 50.

He has the amp sims bypassed.

I think.

Yeah, I play the VX through a TC 2290, and the Edge thing happens pretty easily...........for hours.

I have an M4 and an Axe. The Axe is no Line 6. It is great. I love my M4 but the Axe is tremendous too. You need to play one before you judge it.

True enough! Most of my experience is with Line 6, and that was awful. Friend of mine has an old Johnson modeling amp that isn't bad. of course, he bought my old Rectifier and I think that gets a little more use...

Whatever!

I bought my Axe for effects only with the M4. I in fact, didn't like the clips I'd heard. Then I plugged one into a Mesa 2:90 poweramp and Ear Candy 2x12 cab and punched up my friends "Mark IV" sim and was blown away. In fact, one of the amps that is sim'ed is the Rebel 20.

A studio monkey like myself uses my entire Egnater rig as a pre-amp for my Axe-Fx.
I use the Axe for effects and cab simulation only. (I actually dislike the Axe by itself)

I'm actually stunned by the amp sims. At night I take turns playing through the M4/VHT/Bogner 2x12 rig and the Axe/Carvin SS amp/1x12 cubes (in stereo) rig and I'm happy on both. I think the Axe FX effects are top-shelf and the amp sims are too. I don't use the cab sims with the rig because I run through real cabs. But I'll use them when I record with the Axe direct to the DAW. It's amazing.

That is correct! Just using the Axe-Fx for effects only in the loop. By the way for those who don't know...the Axe-Fx effects are world class and I think they are hands down better than The Eventide Eclipse I used ot have.

Bro,

The Axe-Fx is in an entirely different league than Line-6 and other modelers. I did the Line 6 Vetta thing back in the day and before that I owned a Johnson Millenium as well so I have first hand experience with those units. They were OK but not even close to the Axe-Fx. Other guys here that own one chime in and elaborate!

Not to hijack this thread and turn it into an Axe-Fx thread... But it's great to hear these comments about the quality of the Axe-Fx playability and amp simulation - I'd love to hear more elaboration too...

I'm in no way going to ditch my M4 rig but now that I have a child and small house, my playing time is getting limited and the Axe-Fx sounds like the perfect solution for me to plug directly into my board > computer interface and still be able to get decent tone and playing dynamics. I tried the vetta II route years back and it was absolutely uninspiring. Thinking of selling my spare RM50, palmer PDI and a few other items to raise money for the Axe-Fx.

I know this board tends to lean to the high gain crowd but wondering if the Axe-Fx can simulate good cleans, to fender breakup (thinking my T/D module or Bman...) as well as the more modern high gain tones?

I've never heard one in person but man there are some great clips around!!!!I kinda wish they would just make a dedicated FX unit

The Axe is good, but it's a tool. It serves a different purpose for different users.
The best analogy I can think of is...

Line6- inflatable doll (gets the job done but you don't tell anyone about it)
AxeFx- booty call with an ex (good-great, but lacks soul)
Egnater rig- romance after proposing to your fiance (veeery niiiice)

The best part of playing Eg gear is I still will have that feeling of euphoria 10 yrs from now. I can't say the same about the romance.

R~

  Now that is a good analogy Russ!

I can tell you that the latest firmware releases, basically anything over 7.00 have brought some huge improvements to it. I got mine when it was at 7.04 and it's now at 7.13.
