It makes me very, very unlikely to buy their products, that's for sure.

If a company can't stay in business with big kid guitars, chances are, I would rather not sample their slave labor guitars.

My thoughts exactly. Plenty of USA companies making USA guitars for affordable prices custom or off the wall. No way in hell I'm paying anything over $1200 for guitar from a factory I know will cost <$300 per guitar (including hardware, boxes, case, import fees, etc).

Never owned an LP in my life. Always been a Jackson / Charvel guy and now just a Musikraft & Warmoth Partscaster guy. But I always cringed at the old style ‘Epiphone’ headstock. Having the traditional Gibson Headstock is a noticeable plus to me - but I’m not in the market. Lots of valid thoughts and opinions on this thread. If I had the coin, I’d commission a custom spec’ed Chubtone before I’d buy one of these - but that’s just me…

These epi style just 3 years ago were $450 new.
Its the same ole shit, from the same ole place made outta the same old wood.
Does not justify another $700+ tax & shipping.

How much cheaper were they when the same “higher end” Korean guitars were like $500-800?

Mitch at Sweetwater is way more fucking annoying..

That said, the white LPC is pretty sweet, and I do like the 490R/498T's. But, I still can't do Chinese or Indonesian until they figure out how to do fretwork.
 
Guys in here talking like every Epi LP just shifted to the 1300 dollar mark. There are still a bunch of LP models in the 500 and 600 dollar range so it looks like you're safe for now if you want a cheap ass LP Sharvell-Dan, lol

I noticed Gibson wants almost 500 bucks for a set of Custom buckers. Previous Epi LP customs are like 700 bucks. In that light I don't see this as an awful deal. If the guitar plays and sounds good then it's competitive with Edwards and other LP copies which are around the same money.
 
I remember when Musician's Friend would put and Epi LP on Stupid Deal of the Day about once a month for $200.. about 8 years ago.

Yes and I remember used faded V's for $350. MF were blowing out Epi 335 pros in gold for about $400 a year or so ago. I had a black one for a while. It had half assed pickups, cheap pots, cheap switch, a cheap plastic nut, and mystery wood freboard. It played nice but it wasn't gig worthy thanks to the junk inside. I could've upgraded it to custom buckers, new wiring, and new nut and I would've had the same kind of money into it as the new versions so I'm not in an uproar over this.

Even though the beginning stages of the Edwards start in China, I'd rather have their Japanese finishing vs. 100% China. Those Chinese know how to fuck up a fretboard/frets..

As an Edwards owner I agree with you, but the last couple Epiphones I've had came with a pretty decent setup. I used to see some pretty horrible stuff hanging on the walls of Sam Ash in the past. They once had two natural Casinos, identical. One was amazing, resonant, great setup. I should've bought it. The other one was the polar opposite. Dead and full of fret buzz.
 
Couple demos. All the core sounds I get out of a '57 classic loaded ES are there for the taking: I'm liking this. And the custom buckers.
