what did he even base this amp off of? why does it just grab me by the nutz everytime i hear that first clip??? seriously...im obsessing over an inanimate object for months now...am i... am i.....sick?

Well, I would have to shoot you if I told you

Mike may be on here later and can answer better. I think much of what this was based off of was some of the design work going into the Natas amp. I wanted a JMP 100 watt with tube gain, no Zener diodes, it needed to have a lot of depth to it, dual foot switchable master volumes, a single gain knob with a foot switchable selection, a switchable parallel tube driven FX loop and external bias. When I look under the chassis, the only thing that looks stock is the chassis       I really wanted something that would take some deep drop tunings down to Drop B or A# and still articulate well with brootal gain and not fall to pieces with fizzing, farting, etc. The amp can be set up tighter than tree bark or loose a goose's sphincter.

Fortin does Soundgarden. The more I play this amp, the more it is quickly becoming on of my favorites. The intro to Black Hole Sun is on the neck PU of an Anderson Drop Top, the a little volume roll up, then finishing on the bridge PU. Spoonman on the bridge. The amp is explosive and and I am plugged straight in, no FX and no channel or gain switching. Playing through a Bogner 412 with V30/T75's. The anderson Drop Top Pro AM is tuned to Drop D.

The Zoom camera is on low sensitivity setting, so turn your 'puter up a bit at the start.

Check it out.......Steve

Very cool clip Steve  The the lower gain Knuckle mode does clean up nicely.

You've got a wide bias range on that amp so feel free to keep experimenting with output tubes
Cheers,
Mike

Sounds great.

How about some heavy Metallica or Iced Earth or something stupid high gain

Now your talking........

Yeah man, kick that mini switch over the Aggression mode to bring in that extra gain stage as well as voicing filters!

Terry Syrek has a lot to do with how that first clip sounds. He's an amazing player.

It's variations off some of the other custom mods I've done in the past. Things are always evolving. Steve had some specific specs as far as the 2 modes, loop, and external bias as well as the sonic character. This amp was a '77 so it needed some TLC. Chassis and transformers are the only thing stock. Everything else got replaced. Lots of work involved but it was a labor of love

Cheers,
Mike

it sounds phenomenal mike. every amp i hear of yours sounds incredible, but the bones voicing really speaks to me. i like the articulation in the notes in the higher gain settings, yet the versatility of the lower gain and mid gain modes.

for sure, without playing it, it's the first piece of gear in years that i've felt like is built for me right out of the box. it's just the matter of getting one.

anyways, thanks for answering my inane question.

Operationally, it is a very simple amp to set up. Tonally, it can be quite complex especially when you get the master on up there a was. As far as flicking it over to the Aggression mode, I can, but it will need the FS to do it - so I can stand back about 30 feet! It will part your hair. Its just a bitchin amp, weighs a ton and......it is one of a kind.

Hey Steve,
I'm glad to hear that you've been exploring the possible tones you can pull out of that amp.

If you can't find the original ftsw I sent with the amp, you can use any Marshall style tip to ground ftsw that has a 1/4" plug on it.

Cheers,
Mike

That's probably the best clean I've ever heard out of this style of amp, really sparkly. Good shit

Thanks guys, those 6L6's really roll up well when they need too. The amp has some much bottom end a and depth, it makes up for the loss of the 34's.

let me ask a question about the non midi footswitch capabilities of the Bones amps.

what am i looking at with just tip to ground..what will it give me?

midiwise does it change the modes and the boost?

this was really the only unanswered question about the Bones i've had, the footswitching. i'm not really looking for much, as i've been on the volume knob bandwagon for almost a year now, and haven't looked back, but, im "fsw"-curious.

Each Bones is built to order so it depends on what the customer requested. In its stock form the Bones is a single channel amp. So building one for you and having what you need footswitchable is not a problem. Buying one on the used market that does not have what you need footswitching wise can still be done but would require sending back to me for the changes at your cost.

If you would like to discuss in great detail, it would be best to email me directly or discuss over the phone.
Cheers,
Mike

From the Zoom perspective this is your best sounding amp and imo it is not even close. I have been in rooms woth both camerons and fortins and they were very simular but your vids it is not a contest.

Mike is as good as it gets and it will be getting better.

Yeah I went there.

Yeah I went there.

Thanks bro

I am going to make another round with a couple of the other amps with the same levels and positioning. But, yep - you are onto something.

@Mike - you maybe should name the mod and take a few orders. My wife named it Beano because it passes so much wind through the cabs. I am leaning toward the Fortin SBM - "Skirt Blower Mod"
