New Jersey keeps calling!

Haha! Glad you like that one.

Jersey gets a real bad rap. There's actually only a small section that's really "Joizey", but man, that section is what everyone associates us with.

It's such a weird state though. You can be in "Joizey" by like, Bayonne and Jersey City, and then go an hour west, and you'd think you were in the midwest. Farms, cows, and horses! Go 2 hours South, and you've got the pine barrens and pickup trucks! Head an hour East, and you've got all the surfers, braaaaa. Its such a small state, but such a diverse collection of cultures and people... and crazy accents!

Matt and I are from smack dab in the middle of the state, and I can assure you, display little, if any, jersey-isms in our regional dialect.

The worst thing about New Jersey? It's profound LOVE for cover bands. Jersey is just absolutely awful for original bands. But the cover bands become semi-celebrities. People worship them. Joizey-people can't seem to get enough of yet ANOTHER cover band doing "Livin' on a Prayer" for the 1,356,468 time.

And when you tell people that you're in a band? The first question out of their mouths: "So, what songs do you guys cover?"

That would probably explain why Zakk Wylde is such a Tremendous Master at covers!!

I'm from Texas, but two of my good friends here are from Jersey--Teaneck & Sayreville.

You would never know they are from NJ until they get mad....they TOTALLY revert to the
"Joizey" accent!

Funny.

thumbs up for NJ

at 18 I moved to Pt Pleasant/Wildwood NJ area from Fl and stayed with a booking agent friend for a few months during the Springsteen Born to Run era. Saw bands (mostly cover, some original) every night in all the clubs up and down the coast. Saw awesome bands and musicians in and out of the clubs, Clerance Clemmons, others. These bands were a cut way above other circuits (like FL), even IF they were a cover band.

BTW, they all lugged around Hammond B3's no complaining and the sound and lights guys owned all the PA stuff, would set up and tear down and took pride in not letting the Musicians help. Those days are gone! LOL

From what I understand Jimi Hendrix actually stole the Star Spangled Banner rock guitar thing he did at Woodstock from a guy who was well known for doing it locally in one of the bands I was hanging out with called Borzoi. It was common knowlege at the time.

I also took some lessons from a guy who played through a small yet heavily moded fender that was supposedly THE amp that inspired the Mesa Boogie company to come into being. Mesa actually borrowed that amp to copy the mods and start making amps. I remember that amp being phenomenal and asking my guitar teacher, who modded it, if he would build me one which he agreed. I was young, an acoustic player, broke and I never followed through.

Also Ampeg was made in NJ as well as Dimarzio. The combo of an early Fender P bass Dimarzio passive PU's and an ampeg SVT/8x10 cab there is noting like it. the rock grit, power and feel is hard to come by in other setups.

Oh well, like Springsteen said " Glory Days.. in the wink of a young girls eye"
