New old cab day (I hope)…

Yeah JBT, definitely crack it up open and inspect the wiring and screws. And while you’re in there you can check the center of the magnets for vents. I believe they were only vented for two years. ‘84 and ‘85 to my knowledge.
oh boy, another rabbit hole for me to explore. :p

Yeah I was getting aggravated. Can’t wait to get everything fired up. The wife kinda took over my boom boom room with storage for presents and stuff. I gave her till tomorrow before I start throwing.

aw man, that just snapped me back to reality. It's that time of the year, I need to stay FAR away from the classifieds. Say thanks to your wife, lol. :giggle:

forgot to mention, you might want to crack her open if she is an older cab. I picked up the A and B because they were going so cheap. I went through them, and made sure the wiring and everything was good. What I noticed, is the majority of the screws holding the baffle, speakers, brace, etc. were loose or just not tight in both cabs. Obviously you know not to crank down on the speaker bolts, but these were finger loose. It's worth checking them out.
Thanks for the suggestion. Every speaker screw was loose. In addition a red positive wire that runs to the plastic inputs was dangling loose. The pair for the 4 ohm input on the left. I guess if he was running stereo with both 8 ohm inputs that would have fucked him. He had it on mono though. Probably plugged into the 16 ohm input on the right.

Not totally on topic but a while back I had whittled it down to 2 Ampeg "Fridge" 810s. One was a Heritage model ( the only model still made in the US) in good shape and the other was a cab I bought off a bass player in a local punk band that I literally had to put back together. The grill is held on with 2 wood screws and the grill cloth has ( very faintly now) a stencil of a fist with the middle finger up and the words " Eat Shit" on it. It's a 2006 "Dark Era" cab made out of particle board and has zero tolex on it. It's the ugliest mother fucker you've ever seen. And it sounds fucking glorious. So I sold off the high dollar heritage ( cheap) to a local guy and kept my eat shit cab.

glad it helped man, at least you know whatever shenanigans the previous owner played around with, it would have been the amp getting roached, and not the cab. ☹️

ugh, the why do the ugliest ones always sound the best, kinda like singers, lol. I keed I keed! :ROFLMAO:

I think it's all about age. The longer they are played, the better they sound.

Rumors were that Eddie dug the sound of the original 5150 amps through 75s.

PS. What speakers do people like to mix in an X pattern with 75s?

People really love the Uberkab, I think that's V30x75?

I had a couple of those back in the day, a local player i was friends with recommended I swap out all those plastic handles for metal, & was glad I did so.

The 75's in those cabs pair well with mid-heavy amps that don't have a ton of low end, like a 5150 or jcm800.

I like my plastic handles, lol. 😭 hehe, not.

I would agree, they sound fantastic with a Jubilee and SLO100.
