I guess I'm growing old. I'm a big fan of 90's Swedish Melodeath and then 2000's Swede-inspired Metalcore I guess?

Kinda got stuck in that moment in time as far as tones go. For me, the apex of metal tone is Colin Richardson and Fredrik Nordstrom doing their things in the 90's and then Andy Sneap in the 2000's.

We all are getting old lol. By about 2008 as much as my life revolved around metalcore like this I just kind of had enough, this definitely shreds though

Fuckin’ a, man. I put it on for the drive home, got 2.5 songs in and immediately ran to my studio to start playing guitar. It’s pretty rare I hear something that makes me want to play guitar like that. Not even learning the songs or anything, the riffs are just the type that make me go write some as badass as I can.

As always, you nailed it. Solid man.

I say this all the time on here as well; our favorite tones are often just really fucking awesome riffs and arrangements/vibe in playing. Our ears are tricking us. Use that same tone over and over again with generic riffs and music, our brains tell us it’s the tone that’s old and generic: it isn’t. But, use the same rig over and over with amazing riffs and music: you’ll never get tired of it, and think the tone is amazing everytime. Our brains lie to us all the time.
Yeah, but where do I buy amazing riffs and music? STL doesn’t sell those.

Absolutely!

The more I listen to this album the more I like it. I think Josh has inherited Hetfield’s righ hand. Serious riffage.

Sylosis and Architects both suffer from the same disease: diarrhea vocals. Almost from the first note, the vocal screeching starts and it doesn't let up until the very final note. There's almost never a single second where you can just enjoy the music without the singer constantly stomping all over it.

Seriously, just STFU once in a while.

Yeah, he’s ridiculous

His recommendation around 4:40 regarding practicing with lower gain is absolutely great advice. When amps started getting way over the top in terms of gain and compression (post peavey 5150), many players stopped learning to dig in and create attitude, aggression and excitement by way of picking technique as the amp did much of the work.

Man, I still think the most ridiculous band in a long time that does this is/was spawn of possession. Unboosted dual rectifier with low gain. Freaking crazy.

Song starts at :48

Put all these other tech death bands to shame that have come out. I think mostly because they were influenced by death metal and not other tech death bands.

100%.

Once it became the norm to boost everything with an 808 this really fell by the wayside.
