My simple solution back before I switched over to the MOD50 was to run my M4 pre into a Randall RM50HB. It was basically the cheaper single channel module version of the MOD 50. Put 5881 tubes in there to split the tonal difference between 6L6 and EL34. Sounded great. I also thought it was a huge improvement over the Boogie 20/20. YMMV.

Dude, the TBR-5 will be awesome with the M4.
I've been using a TBR-2SL, which is the powe amp guts of a TBR-5 with a preamp section included.

The Rivera TBR series power amps are some of the best I've ever come across. I use the TBR 3 Hammer 120 at home in the low power Triode mode and it's just pure sweet tone. The TBR-5 is an animal! I've played throught two of them and they are at least equal to my VHT Classic power amp. With having 160 watts of power on each side they can move a lot of air with the right cabinets. So even though they are powerful beasts, they are toneful beasts.

I wish Egnater would come out with their own power amp(s), Bruce has made at least one for a famous Nashville studio player who refuses to sell it to me and he's designed the Rocktron Velocity Valve that also was an excellent power amp. So I am sure with whatever power amp Egnater & company comes up with it will be a great power amp.
