Next tier modern high gain amp recommendations

The MT through my cabs isn't 'clinical' tight. Just like a boosted Recto, with a different low end which is supposed to be more Uberschall-like.
On that cruise and on tv it has sounded clinical af the way mark is using it . Sounds good he’s not got any richness . Just tight chunk

Yeah, everyone has their own opinions but I just think rectos own Engls. There are variations amp to amp, but all ENGLs sound like Engls to me. Rectos just sound more organic and boosted they sit in mixes perfect. The way rectos are scooped specifically sit super well with other instruments. And they sound huge. Probably my favorite amp honestly, and I’ve owned about everything under the sun lol.
true well depends, if I was a live metal band the Triple Rec wins over the ENGL. But for home studio recording, I love the studio features like built in noise gate, boost, etc of the ENGL. Having both a nice ENGL Savage MK2 and Triple Rectifier would be awesome. I mean having tons of nice tube amps is a real luxury treat. I test drive amp models and cabs on my HX Stomp to find my favorites then go try the real deal.

In person, through any of my cabs (newer and vintage greenies, JBL/Altec combo, and 80s Marshall Vintages), the MT is VERY rich and organic sounding....better IMO than a boosted G Triple, and maybe a little short of a boosted F Triple. Sits somewhere in between. And, the low end is huge but not loose.
Very cool amp...Mark wanted a blend of his Triple and Uberschall, and it definitely is unique to my ears. The clean is by far, the best of any high gain amp I've had. Even better than my old C+s. The OD channel could use a mid scoop though. But, I can easily see how it works great live as it'll cut through anything.

It’s cool . I just thought it was too clean on the heavy chunk . Like on higher . The PM part is so clean on the cruise videos and today show

I use my Hermanson Marshall and my Wizard Hell Rasor . But I keep my Herbert mk 3 around for other flavor , I think I might mix it with my main tones 2 amps

and what are your thoughts on the Mesa JP2C versus the Triple Rectifier? Jarrod of Tone Wars YT channel did a comparison test and rated the JP2C much better than the Triple Rectifier.

That guy is a good player, but he can't dial an amp for shit. His idea of good tone is to turn the gain all the way up and hit it with a boost. His Pull Me Under riffs sound like fizzy mud on everything he plays. Plus he said the Fryette UL was one of the worst amps he's ever played, which means his ears are shit too. lol

Both are good. That really just depends if you prefer the mark or recto sound. I feel though the triple is a bit better recto than the jp2c is a mark. If you can I’d go for a mark iii or iv instead if you go the mark route. The mark iic+ and rev c recto are both in my top 3 favorite high gain amps I’ve played

he pissed all over the Bogner Uberschall as well because he does not know how to use that amp.

I’m telling you when use 2 amps at once it’s like that’s what’s missing . Use 2 good amps

... and stop with the stupid pompador hair-cut to try to hide his receding hair line.

One thing I'd also say is your thread title says "next tier", but I see you already have an Mzero Overdrive, which imo is a really good amp. Different flavor than these other amps you're considering, but I found it to be more organic, raw and to me in some ways just better quality tone (richer) than these amps you've mentioned, but not as modern, tight or growly if that's what you need, but I guess my point is none of these amps (to me at least) would be a next tier over Mezzabarba. If anything I'd see it the opposite way, but they'd be more suited to modern metal if that's what you want

I agree with Matt if you turn up a Rectifier the less you need a boost.
Having said that a VFE Standout, Zuul+, Tremoverb and a 4x12 with Vintage 30 / G12H-75 can be interesting. With the HPF on the Standout you can make it as fast and tight as you want.

YEP.......this right here. I run my standout into my Revv G8 and it's exactly how you say running into my Splawn Modded 2203......I don't even miss selling my Randall RG100ES......well..... maybe a little....................:hys: It's always fun to have that specific brutal Dime tone at times....but that setup through the Splawn is plenty brutal.

If you look at my signature you can see my amps, and from what you're asking I'd go for the Herbert. It's the most versatile of them and it's amazing for metal.

Personally, for modern metal, 3k or lower, id go for an uber ultra. That being said, some other amps ive liked that can be found in that range are the redseven leviathan, monomyth skeleton key, mesa jp2c, or maybe a granophyre. Also not trying to be that guy, but im selling a VHT Ultra lead which maybe be your thing if you like dry amps.

yeah id say to get to the tier past the mzero, you are looking at spending 3500+ or getting a really good deal

Agreed, although for just a little more than the Ultra you could probably buy a Rev 2 Uber (if one comes up) and it seems likewise for just a bit more than a JP2C you can get a mark iii or iv. In both cases probably also I'd think better resale on those items than the Ultra and JP2C. I guess if the budget is below $2500 these options wouldn't work out probably

Yeah for recent made high gain amps the Mzero's imo are quite good. I'm not sure though which version the OP has. For under $3500 he could get a '70's or '80's Marshall 2203/4 with a good boost pedal. Still imo a surprisingly hard high gain sound to rival, but for me at least wouldn't be my ideal choice for more modern styles of metal
