I got in touch with a very well regarded builder a few years ago to commission a few of his creations...

Dead accurate replica's of lightly aged 1959 Les Paul Sunbursts for my personal collection.

This builders name is redacted on purpose but he is regarded as one of the top 2 Sunburst builders in the world.

This is the first NGD by this builder I will be posting. This is Serial # 9 1971.

Granted I am a Les Paul addict and have had a ton of them both vintage and reissue.

Sheptone Pick Ups aged and the guitar weighs in at 8.5 lbs.

After playing it for over an hour I will say it is one of the top 3 electric guitars I have ever played regardless of vintage or recent and makes my Historic R9 feel like a toy in comparison.

Totally handmade to exacting detail of a vintage 59 burst. Light aging on this one. I see now why this builders guitars go for the high price tag that they do, they are worth it.

Wow. The colors in the burst are awesome. Nothing like some handmade goodness. Congrats!

Very nice! I love the color and the grain pattern...nice, subtle figuring as well. The tailpiece doesn't line up with the knobs like a real '59 should though...a small detail but something that jumped out at me. That said, I'm all about function over form so no big deal as long as it plays and sounds like it should.

Love it!!And the fact that it has the headstock and logo is a plus!!!!

Wow!that is awesome! I think I know who built it...that is eff'n sweet! Congratulations!

I'm new to the LP world myself. I've been playing since 81-82 and bought my first LP (2012 Traditional Plus) at the end of march and haven't really touched my super strats since. I want an ebony LP Custom now, preferably a # pickup version

 Not sure I follow you there...Everything is exact to a real burst blueprinted from two in hand examples. Please elaborate.

A few examples of 1959 Sunbursts with the same exact placement.

Pretty sure he means that on a real Burst like the Green\Moore Burst in the picture, if you draw a straight line down the middle of the tail piece on over to the knobs, the line will not hit the neck volume knob, but it looks like on your guitar it does intersect with the knob, just like on an Historic.

I typed out a long response and the page locked up on me, but yes, that is what I was referring to. Look closely and yours is not the same placement as the '59s...the tailpiece would run into both volume knobs if slid down across the front...ir would only hit the neck volume on yours. I'm not sure if this holds true for other years, but its a general rule of thumb for '59s.

Poor Brad. When he's not strumming a '59 replica plugged into the newest boutique high gainer, he's shooting some stick on the pool table in the background of those pics.

What a sorry existence..... :hys:

Those pics look closer...wonder why the first pic looks off? Camera angles I suppose.
