A buddy had this and it has THE mojo, when it came up for sale I snagged it from him. Definitely needs some love, going to have to be refretted. Neck dates to 87', I can't tell on the body, it has a weird number on it that may not be from the factory? no idea but does appear to be original.

That's pretty killer. I snagged a really nice double bound ASAT from CME a few years ago pretty cheap, G&L's are among the best fender style guitars out there in my opinion.

Damn I like it.
I call that nicotine white lol….Got a Strat from 83 looks like that. The day I got it in 83 it was white as snow. Of course yours could have been a yellow color originally :dunno: killer axe though. Congrats.
What do those pups sound like?

thanks man! The yellowing is so cool on the old ones. Pickups sound like a beefier single coil, good range of frequency and output, but not p90-sh if that makes sense? I was worried about the bridge pickup, apparently the newer ones can be too bright, but this one sounds great! thing is built like a tank, all the wear is honest. It's got great checking and feels fantastic. I can't do frets myself so I'll have to take it in.

One of my biggest regrets was selling my 87 ASAT special. Mine was black, black pickguard. Literally one of the best made instruments I’ve ever picked up. And those MFD pickups are the absolute bomb. The neck pickup is fat as hell, and they just have tons of attitude. I miss that thing terribly.

I don’t have an ASAT, but I’ve got a Legacy (strat), a JB5 (Jazz Bass), and a L-2500 (also a bass) — all current-ish production USA

I don’t think you can really do any better for a US fender-style guitar for the money that you can get them for on the used market!

I have never played a G&L but I have always lusted after them for some reason. Sweet score bro....
Growing up I thought they were old man guitars, what the kids would call "boomer" now lol. Then I saw Cantrell play one....

That thing looks awesome

I've still never played a single G&L guitar in my life

Very nice.

I had one of the very first iterations......if memory serves correctly, at the very start I believe they were called "Broadcaster", but someone bitched about using the supposedly proprietary name and it was dropped shortly after production. I do remember an advertisement from G&L back in the day with Ray Flacke in a picture with one while it was still called broadcaster.

I wish I had held on to mine. Supposedly the originals are still sought after.
