It's really hard to get Gibson deep purple to show up in pictures, but it's a really cool color

Anyways, got a crazy pawn shop deal well below the reverb rate

Anyone played the Gibson 61r and 61t pickups before? They aren't bad at all. And the switching system with the out of phase and bridge straight to output is a really good idea.

I hated the fact that my 2016 studio had them...but i never changed them. It was only guitar i ever had that i didnt rewire.

The thing recorded fucking perfect. You cant beat perfect

It does, probably worth it though - the bridge tone push pull takes literally everything out of the circuit, including the volume and tone and circuit board

Then having the coil splits and phase reverse is pretty useful
Those PCB pots will start failing eventually. One of mine started going bad within a year (new guitar). Gutted the whole thing soon after. Those boards are tone suckers

I'm not worried about it, I have plenty of pots and caps to replace it if I need to

I even have extra boards, with pots, if I'm feeling extra lazy

I just like that they included a "take the pcb out of the circuit" push-pull

Yeah I don't need perfect from it, just something solid to play in my punk band - i also got a very good deal

I just picked up a Classic thinking it was a "budget" Standard, but it's damn identical to my Standard except for the push/pull pots. The pickups are fine, pretty high-output, but I think I want to replace them with a JB or Distortion.

That said... how's the fret size on yours? Mine are TINY. Like vintage sized. I really don't know what's going on there.

That's funny, I had both this and a deep purple standard in my hands to play back and forth, and vastly preferred the classic - the standard felt basically the same except with a kind of lame flamed top

The frets are medium, not vintage, but not ESP jumbo either - definitely not tiny

I have a zebra Tonenerd Roxy that i was debating putting in the bridge, but honestly the push pull wiring is pretty cool and I like it - i'll probably ride it out with these pickups for a while and see if I can get used to it.

TBH I think the classic is a win for gibson, it's pretty cool for a lower end USA guitar

Congrats dude, whats the difference between this and the standard? i dont think i've ever looked into it!

Whoa, the first pic makes the guitar look black. Looks great! I've always loved LP's with zebra pickups too, such a cool combo.

Gotta chime in on the board though. Functionally it's cool but I'm pretty sure the pots are 300k, which is gonna suck a lot of high end detail out of the guitar. If you used four 500k push-pull pots, you could totally do independent coil taps, phase switch, and a blower pot without the board.

You can actually hear the high end detail you're losing with the blower pot though

It's not anywhere near as bad as I would have thought

Like I said above, I had pickups, pots, and caps "ready to go" to rewire the thing, but I don't know if the tonal difference is actually going to be worth the time and effort

Could be! However I wonder if the extra high end detail you're hearing would be just the loss of the drag from the signal traveling through the pickup selector, tone pot, other parts of the board itself, etc. but it's still not quite as bright as it would be with a 500k pot. Like maybe you get used to an abnormally dark signal and then when the blower switch comes on and gets relatively brighter but not super bright, you still register it as super bright and loud because of the previously dark tone. It's definitely what my brain would do. Or maybe I'm wrong and the blower switch does just sound great, full stop.

If you're happy with the tone then of course by all means keep things the way they are!

I have a Les Paul studio with a wagner ironman wired straight to one 500k volume pot to the output, and I'm not noticing a huge difference

Maybe Ill record it and see if you guys can hear it
