NGD - Chibson Explorer Custom :-)

I am tempted to get some type of Chibson before they get too ridiculously expensive. I'm just not sure what to get. An Iommi style SG would be cool, especially since I have Gibson 57s laying around I could put in it. But at the same time something that seems more "inobtanium" like a Flying V or Explorer would be cool. Hell even a ESP MX copy would be cool to customize even though I'm not a 'Tallica fanboy.

That’s beautiful dude!!!

I recently got one myself and I love it!!!

That's awesome. I want a white one too, I haven't been able to find a white chibson yet. Some of these stores pop up and disappear within a few months. ☠️ Where did you get that logo made?

Nice! Bought an 80s Explorer by Gibson in January and had to return it due to shitty quality. Got a replacement one and it also was badly built. The store ran out of replacements so I took my money back.

I do repairs out of a retail store and I've seen the same trend. Custom Shop Les Pauls come in with damage, nuts cut way too low or weird mistakes. Murphy Labs that have paint literally flaking off them, but I guess that's a part of the Murphy Lab thing. I don't know how they get away with it when smaller builders are charging less and making incredible guitars that are nearly flawless.

I've gone through the same thought process. I could see myself paying $1700-2200 for a Gibson Les Paul that really blew me away.. It's the oddball shapes though. I wouldn't pay $3700-4400 for a used Gibson Explorer Custom sight unseen. If I hated the Chibson I could have always immediately sold it locally for what I paid for it $300+/-. I'd stamp something on the back of the headstock if I ever sold this thing though.

Well I have to have a v…and an iceman…. I would get a chibson and gut it like you did. I have heard that emg hit a home run with the het set. The epiphone prophecy v’s and explorers look great also. I would snag one of those for the right price in a second.

Seems to be reoccurring issues with those models. Especially the 70's. Just about every one I see for sale has paint issues - especially around the binding, and alot of issues around the nut. Finish cracks, bubbling, etc.. Seems most prevalent with the white ones. I haven't really looked at the black 80's models.. Seems like the ones to get are the natural finished pre 70's/80's models.

Yes. I’m still quite pissed off about the quality issues. I would have changed all-black HW and EMGs in it. 😎 I currently own an early ’11 Flying V EB (no laminated fretboard), ’2017 Explorer EB and ’10 LP Custom EB and they’re great. Gibsons are try before You buy guitars which should not be the case for the prices they are asking, especially in Europe.
