New Guitar Day, That Became New Car Day!!
Before I get into this, I want to unequivocally state that I HAVE NOT become one of the "tan pants" crowd!
Around Memorial Day, GC was discounting all their used gear by 10%. For several months I had my eye on a PRS Private Stock that they had been slowly reducing and by the time Memorial Day rolled around, GC had dropped it by 20% and then had the extra 10% off which put it into a price range I felt comfortable with paying. I didn't really want to drop $5K+ straight outta the gate on a guitar, not to mention probably getting killed by my wife for doing so... So, I started listing some gear for sale in the hopes of knocking out most of the cost up front. Well, as luck would have it, by the time I sold what I wanted to sell in order to buy the PRS.. it was gone. So, here I am sitting with a little over $3K just burning a hole in my pocket when what just happens to appear on Facebook Marketplace??
A pretty much pristine 2006 BMW 650i with 64,000 miles on it, listed at 8K!! My wife and I have been looking for one of these for about 4 years now, but given the nature of these cars and the common problems they have, you can't just buy any ol' one that pops up or you might find yourself spending many thousands of dollars in repair bills (notorious for leaking valve seals, coolant transfer pipe corrosion, etc.). We've looked at, and passed on several that appeared to have been rode hard and put away wet, but this one was immaculate! Previous owners bought it from the original owner in 2009 with 11K miles, and only put about 5K miles a year on it since they have owned it. The car was meticulously maintained and they mainly only used it as a "fun" car on the weekends, which is what the wife and I will be using it for as well. It was too good to pass up, so long story short (too late). We brought it home.
So, that's how my "New Guitar Day" turned into a "New Car Day".
