Man, just a few weeks ago I got to see a legend before he retired:

Statement from Nicko McBrain:

After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to take a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle. Today, Sat, Dec 7th, Sao Paulo will be my final gig with Iron Maiden. I wish the band much success moving forward.

I will, however, remain firmly part of the Iron Maiden family working on a variety of projects, my long time managers, Rod Smallwood and Andy Taylor, have in mind for me. I’ll also be working on a variety of different personal projects and focusing on my existing businesses and ventures, including The British Drum Company, Nicko McBrain’s Drum One, Titanium Tart, and of course, Rock-N-Roll Ribs!

What can I say? Touring with Maiden the last 42 years has been an incredible journey! To my devoted fan base, you made it all worthwhile and I love you! To my devoted wife, Rebecca, you made it infinitely easier and I love you! To my kids, Justin and Nicholas, thank you for understanding the absences and I love you! To my friends that are always there for me, I love you! To my bandmates, you made it a dream come true and I love you!

I look into the future with much excitement and great hope! I’ll be seeing you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, “Up the Irons!”

I saw Kiss, Ozzy (with Rhoads twice), Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, U2, Styx, Foghat, ... in the late '70s / early '80s; and later 80s/early 90s: Stryper, Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, (Clash of the Titans 1 had AIC open, and they were booed off the stage, singer jumped into the crowd, did not work out well), Overkill, Testament, Morbid Angel, Obituary, several others...

most modern metal (since 2000) is meh IMO.

AIC went over really good here in the Bay Area when they opened that tour. They had a mosh pit going

many around me didn't like new things, especially music. I had a many friends that liked Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy, absolutely hate Metallica, Megadeth,... crazy to me.

Back in the late '70s, I saw Aerosmith on Draw the Line tour; The Cars opened for them, and were booed off the stage...I think it was before their first album was released or around the time it was released.

One of my favourite drummers with an incredible lexicon of work but you could tell from recent performances, that he is done. The downside of being a very musical drummer is that eventually it is time. You can't just get away with playing a straight beat. Gonna go listen to Infinite Dreams, love his drumming on Seventh Son!

Thanks, Nicko! ❤️ Seen them live many times and for next summer I have Helsinki and London gig tickets. Sad that Nicko won't be behind the drums then... 😔

All the best to Nicko. That guy has earned mad respect and a lot of love.

He has a house in South Florida... and likes to plays golf.

Done and done. Here's to an amazing career!
