Non recessed to recessed floyd conversion

Hey guys, I have a Jackson custom shop soloist with a non recessed floyd. They’re all I had played as far as Floyds, I thought I loved them until I played a recessed version. Realized I like the recessed way more, and now I’m at a huge dilemma. I love this guitar, but I know I’m not going to play it with my other USA soloist sitting there that’s more comfortable to me. Is it possible to convert one, or am I screwed and should sell and replace….

If it is constructed like how the old non-recessed Soloists were, it has a neck-angle like a Les Paul that invariably puts the bridge a ways over the body even if it would have a recess beneath it. Or does it have the neck sitting a bit higher over the body plane and straight without a tilt, so the Floyd rests more or less on the body? In that case it´s no biggie to route out a recess for pullbacks and such, even it you probably can´t lower the bridge much without getting too low action.

I don't think it will give you the end result you would like - the neck angle of a neck through soloist cannot be changed. So even if you can find someone with a sharp router bit to do a clean recess route, you cant drop the bridge plate any further due to the fixed neck. With a bolt-on guitar, any shop who can do the recessed bridge route can also drop the neck pocket to allow the bridge to drop into the recess.

Fuck, that’s a bummer to hear…

I get it. My only Floyd guitar right now is non-recessed because I put a D-Tuna on it. I've always had recessed Floyds and love them. I ended up having to raise the deck and put a damn trem-stopper on it anyway so I should've just recessed it. It's a bolt on so I can easy mod it but still...

Yeah, might have to move on, just because it won’t get the use it should. It’s a bad ass guitar.

That is sick, no wonder u want to do that but like the guys said the neck angle won't allow it. What year is that btw?

At work currently, can’t remember off the top of my head but I think 19 or 20.

Yeah, I'd leave that beauty as is and try and get used to it. This a perfect reason for you to buy another Floyd equipped guitar :D

Yeah, I just know I’ll gravitate more towards my USA with the recessed trem…. Got some thinking to do. Might sell or trade her.

I’m just the opposite. I would rather have my Floyd decked.

I have a Les Paul Axcess with a Floyd and I blocked it for dive only. I also have a bumblebee Wolfgang that has a decked Floyd.

I totally understand why people want a floating Floyd. You can do some crazy shit with a floater!!!

The recessed trem also can sit much lower to the body if the neck angle is right; so it's also about just playing feel. Not just about pull up range.

Dont fuck with that guitar. Its a TMZ custom shop with different head stock and top mount floyd. It was made for people who want the top mount floyd. The neck through wont allow the angle to be adjusted anyway. Just go buy a different guitar.

Yeah, I think that’s the plan… sucks because it’s such a sick guitar.
