I found an old thread I started from 2011 where we discussed his use of the 2205's on a gear walkthrough ( time flies! Nothing really changes gear talk wise lol) but specifically on another Destination, someone mentioned that Cameron modded his Marshalls for that one. Ocean mod maybe? Anyway these opening chords have that same chewiness that Holmes seems to get and it is pretty damn awesome. The highs cut but the lows are beefy. It's gained up, but not overly so. I'm wondering, did Norum boost at all on top of this mod? Does Holmes boost his on rythms or just for leads? The chunk and cut is awesome here. I'd play this mod as is not boosted if that is what it is like.

I don't remember where I read Cameron saying that he initially made what is called the Aldrich mod not for Aldrich himself, but for Norum.

what would a nice quiet wknd be w/o the insanity of donar dRump or mark cameron.
Its the "Santa mod". originally scammeron modded a plexi for Santa @ the n. pole.
Then norum stole it from santa and aldrich stole it from norum. Get your stories straight.

He did one for John and one for his wife...RIP. It wasn't called the Aldrich mod then, should have always been the Norum mod.

The Norum mod and the Aldrich mod aren’t the same. He built 1 amp that switched between Aldrich and Norum. I always preferred his Norum mods but they’re very very rare.

I talked to Mark about this when I was building my Aldrich, he said that it should probably be called the Norum mod since Norum used it first and that is what is on this album.

I also had one with Norum written on the inside. It wasn't gooped/painted over values; white head shell and sounded spot on to the Aldrich I had next. Supposedly was done way back in 1993.

Did you ever pop the cover and see what it looked like? I wonder how extensively it was modded or what the general mod is in terms of clipping diodes or just resistors and caps.

Not only does Norum rip but his tones are obviously epic!! I thought the vocals were worth a mention too, great vibe on this track. The rest of the album good if not better?
I was thinking the exact same thing! Great tones, great groove, killer playing. I really need to breathe some new music into my old playlist - and I know there is a ton of really good stuff out there that came out when life was pulling me in different directions away from guitar. I need to fell those gaps and based on this track, this seems like a pretty good place to start!

There is a José connection with Norum as well, there´s this great story from a swedish magazine where his old buddy Andy Laroqcue calls up John and asks if he wants to tag along with Andy and José over to 5150 and see what Eddie thinks about the newest mod. I think this is late 80s.

I have an Aldrich mod 800. This is the sound of it straight into it. Not saying John didn't boost, but I found that it really doesn't need a boost, nor take them particularly well. It does this sound and this sound only. There are some options, switches, that change some things around, but the setting that works is this one, really making the switches unnecessary.

Norum's amp got the first version of that particular mod.
When Mark made the one for Aldrich, it was voiced a bit brighter and even more aggressive.
So, the original "Norum" mod, was a bit smoother than the "Aldrich" version. The Norum was still plenty aggressive and pissed off, it's just that the Aldrich was even more, by being voiced a brighter.
I've had the one original style Norum mod and three different Aldrich mods. The one I've decided to keep was one that was made back in the day for Psychodave. This one has the option of choosing between the Norum and Aldrich mods with the flick of a switch.
Pretty cool sounding mod, and still sound incredible, even after all these years.

Unrelated to the gear, but that solo f*cking rips.
