Wonder what it would sound like running one of the Mesa Recto Recording preamps into the power amp section of the MOD50? Those seem to go used for around $600 USD or so - not a lot more than a module. Never tried one, but just a thought - cheaper and easier to tote than a DR head

I've been thinking along the same lines. I've considered picking up a Mesa Studio Pre.

Here's an idea:

Get rid of the Mod 50 (Is it a combo or head/cab unit?)

Get something like the TM 212 cab if you need it.

Get the Mesa pre.

Get the Eggie poweramp when it comes out.

Might do the trick.

:2thumbsup: :loco: :dunno: :salute:

...Almost, but you forgot one thing...a loaded M4! M4+Mesa pre+power amp - that would actually be a rocking setup, although heavy as hell to tote!!

I've been tweaking quite a bit now. The Erect got a little closer to what I'm looking for with the bright switch in position 2 and the density at about 9 o'clock. I got a new Elmwood 2x12" cabinet today wich also sounds a bit more agressive than the old Marshall cabs I normally use. The SL2X started to sound really good now with the new cabinet as well!
Feels like I'm getting there now...
