GC is selling these for $40. They have a secret switch inside that swaps it from the standard TS type OD with less bass suck than a SD1 into the ZW overdrive circuit. After putting some play time on it, I am going to leave it in the stock setting because I have other non TS type boost pedals already. I may buy a second one to keep in the ZW setting though. For $40 you can't beat it. Great pedal.

FWIW, these are not my settings. I lifted this pic from TGP. I have it set at level 3:00, tone 11:00, and gain at zero.

Happy NPD  A forumite let me borrow one of these a while back and it really works great as a boost. Sounded great with every amp I tried it with

I have only used it with a RM100 so far but is sounds great with a JF Brahma, JF Mr. Soldano (Mr. Scary), and stock SL+. I should have my Sacred Groove Fisch back tomorrow with some updates and I have a feeling that will kill also.

Yeah for $40 you cant go wrong. Especially in today's world of $300 OD pedals

Sounds good to me. I didn't pay much attention to it actually. I will play around with that later today. I also rebiased, swapped some power tubes, and rebiased again last night so hearing that the pedal sounded great was enough for me.

Sweet, let me know what you hear with the bypass. Its always nice to have a cheap overdrive to recommend to my buddies who are looking. Like me they always seem to be strapped for cash.

I have the classic distortion one (ZW copy) and it is a great boost. I want to pick one of these up though, so I can put it in my rack.

Are these the only ones with the secret sauce switch?
There's like, 4 mxr pedals that look like this:..
Green, red......

The Classic Distortion is a Dist III copy. At least that's what MXR dude told me on the phone. No secret sauce in that one Concrete...

I've been wanting to drill the casing out for a toggle switch on my classic od. Switching between the settings is a bitch!

pretty cool they have internal switch. I honestly hate when they do that with pedals though. first the internal trim pots on the carbon copy, and now the internal toggle on the classic distortion. its just such a pain to use/adjust.

:) :) so my red ones got a,switch inside?!
(Trips over pile of cables to get screwdriver!)

Alas. no switch.

just that tan,one then?

Nice. I hear this is one of the best for the money

Congrats on the new pedal day!

I don't like internal switches either but no one is supposed to know about this one. Basically the Classic OD is a GT-OD in the stock setting (think TS with more heat) and the ZW OD with the switch flipped. MXR doesn't want you to know this because those pedals are something like $80 each. This one is $40 and has both circuits in it.

This is exactly the same(except color) as the classic overdrive GC was selling earlier this year for $29. I bought one. I like it. I did a little OD comparison the other day. TS10, SD-1, Classic OD and BBE Green Screamer. They all sounded a little different and they all did the same thing well. Classic OD doesn't sound any better or worse to my ears. I guess cream paint costs $10 more than green. Yeah, it has the secret switch. I don't think I've read about anyone liking the sound in the alternate position though. Drill a whole and put a mini toggle.

Nice! I don't think I can get these in England. There's the MXR GT-OD in green but I can't find anywhere about the switch to change circuits.

I'd actually be happy to pay someone to ship me over one of those if they're £40! The green ones are about £85 in England!

Green ones are also $40. The $29 thing was a limited offer when only green was available.

I have two greens. I keep one stock, and one non-stock.

I prefer non-stock.

To get to the switch and see what you are switching, you have to pull the PCB. This means removing the knobs and jacks. Some people have done it with a paperclip, but they don't call it a secret switch cause its easy to get to. I am just curious who first discovered it, cause the word is out now. :)

I also read on another thread that these are true bypass, that was really surprising. Can anyone confirm this? I have not been impressed with the bypass on the few MXR pedals I have had.
