I’ve really wanted to do this for years. I’ve hooked up with an local pickup winder who’s been helping me out. I’ve done some sets on other peoples winder but figured it’s time to just buy one.

I’m going to be doing a batch of PAFs with degaussed A3 and a batch with degaussed UOA5s and send them out to a few people on the forum for R&D feedback. That will probably be about 30 days. If you are into unpotted PAF types hit me up and maybe I’ll send a

Scott, I'll test some. I also have access to many of the local artists if you want pro feedback.

BTW, I'm getting to the point where I'm really entertaining the idea of winding transformers.

OK, now I'm gonna be the one to accuse you of being out of your mind! :ROFLMAO:
:ROFLMAO: We'll I've wound transformers for ac step up, and step down many times. It's really just like a gear ratio. (well you have to understand core saturation, etc.)

might order some m-6 laminations, and build a bobbin winder. Would be fun to learn what, and why sounds different.

@scottosan apologies in advance for the derail

Transformers of varying sizes have been a pretty big part of my entire career - and I'm not even an EE.
Early 80s I did assembly and testing of these huge spectrometers. (holy shit, found a picture of one)

The entire bottom section is the power supply - the main transformer had to be installed into the chassis
frame using an engine winch. 100/120/240 INPUT and then 5,000 volts with a 5 amp!!! potential OUTPUT.

Testing the power supply was a two person job in a special room with a thick rubber floor. One person did
all the hands on testing while the other sat in the corner next to a KILL switch. Man that xformer hummed
like crazy at full power - in a scary kind of way.

NEVER, EVER smoked or drank at lunch if there was power supply testing to do that afternoon. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
