So what's the verdict?
Can you Peter jump in? :) I tend to fully agree with everything you say :D :D

Now I have the very same problem. I am changing my speakers in my 2x12" with couple of 8 Ohm ones.
So do I have to wire them in parallel or in series to use with the 8 Ohm ouput of my 100W Einstein. I know it has 4 and 16 Ohm speaker outs, but I want to put a Koch Loadbox 2 attenuator in between which is 8 Ohms (to make the things a bit more complicated :) )...
And I know I just have to clear some space for a proper Diezel FL 4x12" cab (yummi ....will be G12K, V30 ...) :)

Mike is right as always, but running a 16 ohm cab on the
8 ohm speaker out is no problem.

I don´t recommend attenuators !!!

Many thanks :)
God forbid - I didn't do this as of know, i.e. putting the attenuator i work between the Einy and the cab (I am using the "through" output, which is basically connected directly to the input - I opened it to verify this :) ), since the Master volume on the Einstein, works so well.
I am using it for my other amp, which really needs it, if I want some juice out of it, and just thought for convenience to switch the cables between the cab and amps only. Now I will be aiming to fund the Diezel cab undertaking as soon as possible....

I'm thinking that cabs are in series, so Ohms law would be: 16*8/16+8= 5,333333 Ohms -> use the 8 Ohms out. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Wrong. Right. Confusing.

a) if you would run the cabs in series it would result an overall impedance of 24 Ohms (16+8). Very few cabs can be hooked in series ;)

b) when you hook both cabs to the amp (normal way to do it) , the wiring of the (speaker out) jacks is in parallel:
1/16 + 1/8 = 1/R --> R = 5.3 Ohm
use the 4 Ohm then, which means stick both cabs into the "2x8 // 1x4" out.

Wrong, but right result and the wrong suggestion again? Wow, I rule!

Woo hoo. Got it right from almost  first time (multimeter can be the one's best friend actually :) ). Now I have a G12K-100 and a V30 in my 2x12" cab, wired in series to end up as 16 Ohms.
Sounds amazing :) Next week will gut it again to experiment with mounting the speakers in front.
Can be my poor ears, but I think that the 16 Ohm output of the Einstein just sounds better than the 8 Ohm one, as well.
