Man i have been getting interested in Cornford amps recently! I have liked the clips of their amps and also every time i have been to Music Live or the London Guitar Show, i always loved the tones i heard!!

Any Cornford users here or any previous owners? If so, what did ya have and what did ya think of it?

Im liking the clips i heard of the Hellcat and the RK100!

I got a chance to play through Greg Howe's Cornford which is the 50watt head model and i thought it sounded pretty bad ass. But ya know you should probably get some feedback from someone who has played it for at least a week, cause u know how it goes, things sound great for a day and then somehow u don't jive with it down the road. at least its that way for me.

Absolutely, im the same too. I find that some days i can try something, love it, then 3 months down the line find that its not for me!

Greg Howe plays the MK50H i think, i heard one of those live and cranked up and it sounded pretty awesome! The Cornford overdrive tone seems to be more of a brown, chewy kinda tone. Theyre apparently quite unforgiving amps too!

Ya know it kinda felt like a souped up master JMP master volume amp, it was spongy and pretty smooth. Greg doesnt use all the gain provided with the amp because he likes the Ts-9 pedal to stomp on to give him that mid hump, but it seemed marshally.

Put it this way, If I had a choice to pick from a Cornford or Cameron Mod Amp, I would go Cornford because at least I could hear string clarity and distinction when ones plays a strat or Les Paul. IMO.

You can definitly hear total string clarity with the Cameron, its just they have to be dialed in differently to most other marshalls and modded marshalls. A lot of Cameron clips iv heard have it dialed in for mega gain, but i use mine somewhat crunchy and then hit it with a Furman PQ-3 or other boost to get it to saturated levels!

I had a MK50. Liked myCamerons a lot more. They're simular, therefore do the same thing, so.......

I here the MK50II sounds a little better than the MK50. But I don't know first hand. I have a few clips in my sig of the Cornford.

I had a few other amps while I had the Cornford too. The Camerons allways win. :D  Just get a CCV.

Very true. An amp with so much gain jacked up in the preamp section will not let you distinguish what type of guitar you are playing. Just like an amp modeler, you can play a single coil strat and it will sound no different than a humbucker equipped guitar.

Play a Cameron with a decent les paul, and then a good single coil strat and you will hear a massive difference. They dont have the same type of typical preamp gain most high gainers have. Its very clear and you can hear the differences between different guitars tones! Its also the most dynamic preamp gain i have heard, most high gainers normally dont respond well to pick attack and dynamics. The Cameron does, and very well too!

I know of a guy that got a Cameron once. He got it and hated it. Way too much gain, allways feedback, just sounded like crap. So he sold it dirt cheap. The guy that got it acually knew how to set it up and use the features that were on it. It made it's way to my friend and was probably the best sounding amp I ever heard. All the Cameron mods are different. And you need to learn what's going on before you can really appriciate what's going on inside.

I have a Cornford 50 watt and a Hellcat. Love the amps, very nice build quality and they sound great to me. Just depends on what you like.

So I know where u r coming from. I went to Mark's shop and played two of his heads over a year ago. my first impression was it was completely effortless for play even at a lower gain setting because of the compression factor, ( I don't prefer that feel , i like the unforgiving thing because I think your personailty/individuality comes across better, IMO), we sat there and he was tweaking settings as I was playing for a good hour and I simply did not jive with it, period. I'm not saying that his stuff sucks, it's just too metal/modern sounding for me even with a boost pedal and set at cleaner setting. we tried that too. If anything, I like his concept around the CCV product, that would probably catch my interest more than his Jose/Ocean mod stuff. Plus i like simplicity keeping it pure and organic, I used to mod so many marshalls back in the day and I always end up going back to a stock amp with the voicing I like and boosting it with a pedal. all good though, rock on!

I had the same experience as 70strathead...I could've gotten a rediculous deal on a mint condition used head at a local music store (it was less than half price) and I couldn't get along with the feel of it.

There is a ton of people that would disagree with this very correct statement

I hear you man. Not everybody is going to dig the Camerons, just like every other amp out there like the VHT's, Bogner's, Diezel's, etc, etc. The "feel" you're discribing is one of the things I like about the Camerons. But I can completely see how some would like a more stock feel.
