What a difference.............
the JB is in my Alder Jackson and the Distortion in my Edwards Sykes LP.
I know 2 different animals because of the wood.

But the Distortion sounds so much clearer than the JB as well as more agressive.
the JB sounds very muddy compared to my ears. The Dist. is a little brighter maybe as well

The nice thing is I can roll the tone knob back on the LP and it sounds very different in a cool way. I feel I can almost get it like the JB.

Running all this through my Randall MTS combo

I've used the Duncan Custom for years and have considered trying out the Distortion. Have you compared the two?

I thought the jb was the muddiest thing ever in a ltd m1000.

I had one in the LP Studio I had.
IMO the SD Dist. is way more agressive. Brighter.

I did like the Custom though. I think it would be a great Hard Rock PU and some metal.

I think the Dist. covers more Metal territory.

I think Pyschodave uses Dist. PU's in the Jacksons he has/had he may be a bteer source.

I may need to try the distortion!

Ill trade you your jb for my basically brand new distortion. It has only been in one guitar, and has most of the lead left.

The distortion has more low mids and a generally larger sound but it also has a very modern voicing which may or may not work for your style. The JB is very percussive and high mid grinding and my personal favorite pickup. I have a Distortion in an Alder Jackson RR1 and it sounds so fucking large it kind of borders on ridiculous.

But yeah the JB has a nice Vintage tone thing going on if you ask me. It also can do more modern tones.

Love the distortion in alder strat style guitars, you roll off the volume and you can get a gritty AC/DC tone outta a strat - AND dont forget the cleans are also very good on that pup -

If anyone wants to try a Seymour Duncan Distortion, I have a zebra tremspaced version that I would trade for a zebra tremspaced Custom or Full Shred.

If interested just PM me.

I tried the Distortion in my R7 Les Paul, but found it too modern sounding for my tastes. Then again, it may work great in another guitar.. i just never got to try putting it in one of my other guitars unfortunately!

I've been contemplating this for weeks.
But I think I may just do this swap:

Jackson USA Dinky- JB out & into my Edwards
Edwards Sykes LP- Distortion out into my Jackson
Or Jb from the Jackson to my Ibanez HSS and the Dist to the Jackson then just find something for the LP.

The Jackson is a metal guitar-single hum, 1 vol, 1mini toggle for splitting, Floyd, Alder, rosewood board the Distortion would probably be better in that.

What do you think?

I agree 100% with what you're saying about the JB ....I hated how it sounded in my soloist. Mud City!!!

CAn I ask what did you put in the Soloist? And did you ditch the JB?

I had a JB in a Les Paul. Very muddy indeed, very nice midrange, and the highs were a tad harsh. It worked for what I wanted, but I can see where some people wouldn't like it. Works a treat for stoner rock.

I've had a Distortion for about 6 months that I've yet to install in my basswood Ibanez

I have a JB in my mahogany schecter and like it a good deal
