Olaf, what are the pickups you use?

alright, thank you sir.

the guitar I have is this one:

three way switch, two pots (volume/tone)

two more questions:

1) I'm ordering the push pull pot you suggested....but it's a "tall" pot......the other pot I need to order, can it be the normal 10mm one or would it need to be "tall" too to match the pull/push?

2) knobs: someone said that the knobs I currently have (250k) probably won't fit the new pots (500k) is this true?

Olaf,
Have you heard of the new German-made Amber pickups? The guy who builds them was at the Musikmesse. He has made special sets for Vigier guitars at their request.
Some players from the Les Paul Forum, who were in Germany, heard these PAF style humbuckers and said they really give the other boutique pickup builders something to think about.

Size: No idea Joey - you need to measure whats inside now and order the correct ones.

Knobs: see bottom

Oh well, just saw what Capulin wrote - he's probably right, so just order new knobs along with it and probably a driller . . .

alrighty then. Thanks Sir.

I love your clean tone with those pickups, that's why I asked what you were using.

Btw.....the Little Joe is sounding marvelous man! I'm playing with the "low master/high volume thing to get breakup... :inlove:

I did this thing in thegearpage where I asked what fender was this clean channel amp based on, and posted this clip http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7518076

and someone got it right away ... DELUXE REVERB hehehe freaking love this amp

you being the amp builder....how close would you say the clean channel is to the real deluxe reverb?

thanks Scott.....but like I said EMGs are starting to sound too sterile to my ears with the only exception of the SA/SA/85 system that my blues strat has (maybe it has to do with the guitars.....or maybe EMGS back then where a bit less sterile (I bough the system like 12 years ago)

well if you are in experimenting mood then try this 5$ mod on your strat:

thanks man, I wanna make the 18v mod....do you hear a good dif.? is it worth it?

I built the one with the switch hanging out of my pickguard so I could go back and forth...

well the change is most noticeble if you play crunchy stuff,
it has less of the EMG compression and sounds more treblie with tight basses...

For me the mod was great in getting that SRV bite...

If you go through that thread there is also a diagram with 3 battery-clips so you don't
have to change your electrics at all, just plug the "adapter" to your current battery clip:

Also you can try this mod on your explorer, there is enough room:

so just play around

Preampwise (very) close, but then comes the loop before the poweramp, which is different and adds bottom end compared to vintage Fenders. OT and choke are close again then. Well, its pretty fenderish, but not a clone, you know.
I had a Supersonic here (to mod it) and while the clean was nice (the 2nd channel sucked major ass) I prefer the simplicity of a LJ or the DlxRev I had the pleasure to play several times now (its here for repairs every now and then).

alright...good to know I felt the amp was very fenderish, but I've never owned one so I didn't know how close it was untill someone said it could definitely pass as a fender amp in a recording.

The guy that picked up the Deluxe reverb circuitry thing has VERY good ears because he also mentioned the "more bottom end" thing.

by the way...what are you playing right now? what amps are currently in your arsenal?

I might be interested in another Duesentrieb....can it be done?

I'm old school: DiMarzio

I have DiMarzio D Activators in my new Iceman, need to spend more time with it as I've only had it a few days. If anything, I may swap out the bridge pickup for a DiMarzio X2N. According to DiMarzio, the D Activator Neck is a good match for the X2N in the bridge, at least for output. I want a more vintage, early - mid '70s hard rock tone (early Humble Pie, Faces, early KISS/Paul Stanley rhythm) which isn't far from the blues tones you're after IMO. The D Activators aren't as modern as the D Activator-X, so that's a plus for me. For blues, I'd go with Medium or High power DiMarzios.

I've the same config, one volume pot and one tone pot, though both are 500K, and a 3-way selector. I'm not looking to split or have single coil though.

Here's a body pic of the new Iceman ...and I'd rather have chrome/nickel hardware however, it wasn't an option :( except for a Totman sig, but I didn't want the tremolo bridge, pickups, one volume pot, and higher cost.
