The band I'm in has been playing frequently, so we leave the equipment in the trailer and use backup gear in the rehearsal space. I have been using a Line 6 combo amp that I picked up for cheap, but I don't have the footswitch for it (and don't want to invest in one), so I can't easily switch between clean and crunch. I had a rack rig in the closet that I used for 80's hair metal stuff - back in the 80's  - so I thought I would pull it out and dust it off. To my surprise, everything works and it sounds pretty damn OK. It can't match the quality of the effects or the options available in my live rig, but it's more than adequate for practice.

Peavey Classic 60 Tube Power Amp
Digitech GSP 21 Processor
Alesis Midiverb III
(MIDI switched and used only for a specific Chorus patch on some of the clean presets)
1980's Coiled Cord

Yestertech for the win

Why not? Get that rack out of the moth balls for a while and shake it loose a bit.

Still have my GSP as well with footswitch, manual and original box : )

Blast from the past. :)

So what is your main rig?
I use an Eleven Rack as a pre-amp and processor with a Midiverb III (again, for a specific chorus preset), plus some stomp boxes on a slide-out shelf, both in front of the 11R and in the loop, controlled by a GCX and Ground Control Pro. I have a Mesa Simul-Class 2-90 for power and run the rig in stereo into either a pair of Avatar 2x12's or an old Carvin 4x12 wired for stereo.

This picture doesn't show the pedals on the shelf, but you get the idea...

Alesis.....

I like your old rack
Thanks! The GSP is a little noisy when you switch between presets and, honestly, the effects aren't exactly stellar, but it works. No one notices the noise and low-fi effects in the bars we play. It's especially good at the things I put it together for back in the day - Dokken, Tesla, Ratt, Poison, etc. I'll never grow up

The Alesis gear has been rock solid and you can't beat the bang for the buck. Definitely not top-of-the-line, but it's a useable effects unit. I picked up a near-perfect Midiverb III recently for $40. I like the chorus preset (#49) and I can't buy a stomp box that sounds as good for that money.

I had the Alesis a Boogie Studio, and a Strategy 400 and aRoland GP8 that never really interfaced well with the other stuff.

But you've moved on to cool hand-built stuff

well,...after the studio pre and the strategy 400 I had a mark III for a while. then I sold the strategy actually traded it back to boogie for a QSC of some sort. then I sold the mark 3 Got an ADA preamp and used it with the QSC for a while then was convinced in needed the ada microtube power amp. so at the time i thought it was the top of the line rig. then I wen to rehearse with a guy who had a real JTM45 and a 412. It made my stuff just sound stupid. Ive been pretty much a straight into the amp guy now. Maybe some reverb or delay of fun vibe effects here and there. But the Guitar, Amp connection has to be perfect because I can hear and feel the difference. After hearing his JTM45 I fell onto the hoffman and metro sites and started playing around with building my own stuff and trying to keep the circuit as uncluttered as possible but with more gain.

thats it man!!!!!!!!!!!!! were bringin it back. (for some it never left)

I never quite turned loose of it. I still dig the 80's - I guess the stereotype of this place fits me

Not anything like Zachman's, but all hail the "Death Star" (as my bandmates used to call it).

Although, this shot might rival the ol' Zach-ster

Obviously, some of these pieces have come and gone but all the cabs are still around. Actually, the only things gone are the H&K Switchblade head (sold and bought a Switchblade 2 x 12 combo) and the JVM (bought a Splawn Nitro and another Quick Rod).

Ah, toys...

I'm digging this thread!

Unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute.

sometimes we keep looking for the next best thing when what we've already got is what we need.
