Older ones sound better.

'02's included? ...I've got an '03.

Got any clips?
Here is a shitty solo clip of the 02 EMG 81. It’s through a Cameron Aldrich ….the one people here were saying doesn’t sound right. Derp 🤷🤔🤣

The rhythm guitars are Mark 2C++. That Cameron Aldrich cut right through the mix. I was playing the solo for a friends college music final. Was at least 7-8 years ago.

Sounds great! Nice playing!

As an aside, can anyone hear a difference between these EMGs running at various voltage? And if so, can you explain it? 🤣

I always thought I loved the 18v mod but now I’m wondering if I’m imagining it.

9V sounds best in this clip...Slightly thicker and more "chunck" in the palm mutes.

Sounds great. My 03 81’s just sounded a bit thinner in my KH2 vintage. I’ll put em i my Jackson KV1 and then we’ll see :)

I know it's not guitar related, but I found similar changes with the bass pickups. My old 80's Spectors have brown back EMG P/J's in them and they sound way better than the newer active EMG's. The brown back P/J set is warm/thick while still having the EMG bite and clarity, while the newer ones are harsher sounding.
