Ordered a Boss SD-1 as a Boost for my Friedman Amps

I have 3 Friedman amps, Little Sister, Pink Taco V2, and a JJ Jr.
Currently I use an Ibanez TS808 mini as a boost, I like the fact that it is True Bypass.
I run it it with the tone at noon, volume at 10 and gain at 0, it sounds great as a boost.

I have been hearing a lot of people use the Boss SD-1 with Marshalls so for $49 I figured I would order one and try it out.
I know it is a buffered pedal which I am not crazy about, but it is the only buffer in my chain, so I don't think it will affect much.

At most I use a wah, chorus, and the boost pedal.

Hoping it sounds good.

If it does it will either replace my TS808 or maybe it will work better for some stuff, at that point i will run both of them.

The SD-1 is all I used with the PT. Tried several others, and always went back to the SD-1.

I actually like my Maxon OD 808 in front of anything, even my Friedman. I'm trying to remember if I tried an SD-1 with it at one time, I probably did lol.

This. It’s the only OD I use and it sounds good with everything. Very transparent.

I'm actually back to using it with the Archon. The Buxom Boost sounded great, also used an MXR M-77, Wylde OD, GT-OD, and Dragon, SD-1 FTW.

Maybe try the amp at JCM800 levels of gain, SD-1 for boost and add Tube Screamer to all that for a lead sound.

I actually like the SD-1 with more amps than the TS808, personally. The SD-1 is tighter, more aggressive, less nasal, and less stuffy.

But sometimes the TS808 just works. In front of a 5150, for example, it's just that sound.

The TS808 mini is actually not nasally used as a gain boost, it is pretty transparent, but I am really looking forward to trying the SD1.

I love trying all kinds of boosts. Some have weird sweeps on their controls, but generally I like to add level/signal, and use just enough "gain/dist" to grease the tone up a bit. I like hitting a tube preamp hard, unless there are predominant diodes already in the circuit. I like to use it to add some sizzle and tighten things up a bit. Some amps don't need it obviously, but I like the ones you can play around with. It's just more colors on the palette.

I really thought when I bought the Friedmans I wouldn't need to boost them, just plug in and rock.
Truth is I could, but the boost makes them sound better.

Honestly, that was one of my gripes with the Cameron stuff. I could get it to feel and sound boosted straight in, which was awesome. But at the end of the day, I was stuck with that one sound, as great as it was. :dunno:

Couldn’t agree more. There was no way to turn off the “Cameron”
