ran into a gal at business i'd like to ask out, but the way the business is laid out i'd have to hit on her in front of God, her boss and several other people.

I'd go for a low key approach. It's a little more cautious but if you put in the effort it is often worthwhile.

Try email trading first. (Not texting, that's a pain in the ass) Encourage a common interest (music, maybe?) and offer to follow up about it. I wouldn't try getting her contact info from someone else, as she may think it's intrusive and/or creepy.

If you get the email address start slowly with your correspondence, but if she responds with notes that seem like she's interested, then encourage getting together for that common interest. ("I have an extra ticket to the Deicide concert, would you like to go?"...etc.)
