Anyone try OX4 pickups through a high-gain rig?? I read that they're not potted so curious if anyone has had any microphonic issues. I'm in Nashville and Carter Vintage Guitars have a slew in stock and I'm fighting back the urge to buy a set

I have them in one of my guitars and really dig them. I haven't had any microphonic issues with mine through my high gain amps, but I haven't gigged them, so I'm not sure how they'd be in the type of environment that can really bring out the noise.

Covered or uncovered. I have had four sets and still have a set in my R8. Great pickups. Mine are covered. I play higher gain and on the loud side. I always redo my covers on non potted pickups just because I feel I can usually make them better. A strip of electrical tap eor similar over the slugs. Dab some silicon in a dollop shape so it sticks up across the tape, but not too much. You don't want it to spread to the screws. Press cover on and solder. Uncovered you should be good to go. Go for it. The tone is worth it. I love my Suhr but there is nowhere near the tone of my R8 and OX4's and the Suhr is a great one. Had nine Suhrs and this one stayed.

Which set do you have? I'm leaning toward the Hot Duane set...

Glad you asked. I have had low wind, high wind, and hot Duanne. I play higher gain. Go for a high wind

What's the story on the high wind? I have the low wind and I've heard the Hot Duanne is a slightly hotter, fatter, & rounder than the low wind. Where does the high wind fit in?

He does high winds, low winds, and the hot duannes. The high wind comes in hotter than the low by maybe 1.5K. The Duannes are a little different but I can't remember how. They may be hotter than the high winds. I preferred the high wind. I think mine was 8.6k on the bridge.

Steve / sah5150, has these pups and likes...was also considering...

I have them in two guitars and not only do they sound phenomenal, I haven't had the slightest problem with microphonic through my high gain amps, even when i COMPLETELY crank them and am standing right in front of the cab...

Ask for the Steve Henning wind!

I just told Mark that I wanted a set of PAF-style humbucking pickups that would get authentic old school Zep-like tones, but not sound anemic and lacking sustain with high gain amps and he worked his magic. Never measured them so I don't know the details - I just trust Mark...

Probably... he told me people were asking for my wind by name because I did some promotion for him and we both laughed about it...

They are great! I tried quite a few other names but these were it for me.
