Para EQ Pedals for Hard Rock/Metal: Any Experiences?

Para EQ sound way more natural to me. You can get a more precise boost without the extremes most graphic EQs inherently have. I don't like graphic EQs because there's too much gain +/- when all you need is a few db. If you boost or cut too much it sounds unnatural, but it's tough not to use too much where there's 12, 16 whatever db on a tiny slider that gets easily bumped or wiggled around in transport.

I just got a Boss GE7 eq pedal that I run up front as a slight boost and I like it a lot better than a tubescreamer. I run the Kerry King frown shape but only cutting the lows and highs rather than boosting any frequency over 0. Only a slight bump on the gain switch to hit the preamp harder.
I never got along with Eq pdeals in the loop, only like it in front.
I found the MXR and Boss to be way too noisy....interested in the new silver MXR though. The cheapo Fish n Chips was better to me than the aforementioned EQ pedals.
Like you, never gelled with the pedal in the loop...did something more to the tone than just the frequency change, not for the better IMO.
Love to try the Paraeq though...on the verge numerous times.

I used an old boss pq4 for a long time and nothing could touch it to push an amp. I since started modding and building my own boost/overdrive with the eq curve I liked I got out of the pq4 but with a bit more punch and headroom and quieter. Def. worth a try if you can find one

After reading this thread I picked up the silver MXR 108S ten band EQ. I tend to use a EQ after fuzz or as a boost in front of the amp. Occasionally in the loop depending on the amp. I tend to prefer graphic over parametric. Using it as a boost the GAIN and VOL are nice for controlling the saturation.

Anyone using the MXR to run in front of two amps ???

So after being blinded by the blue light I see the LED slides out. This means it can be replaced by any color. Just a matter of finding the right LED.

Anyone know what one is a direct replacement ?

I've had the Furman PQ3 & The PQ4.....Loved both of them. I also at one time had a Behringer unit that was pretty cool too. The Behringer usint I used when I was running a Marshall 9100/JMP-1 Rack.

I've been interested in a pedal form para EQ lately and some clips I've heard of it doing clean to somewhat dirty are making me think it could be better than a straight EQ pedal for tone shaping.

The Empress para EQ has my interests. Unfortunately, I can't find many clips of people using para EQ's on modern amps. I know most amps don't need them, but it could open up even more possibilities.

Anyone have any experiences with one, the Empress or others?

Also, do you put them out front or in the loop and why?

Cheers!

The Empress para EQ is the bees knees!
