Passive vs. Reactive Attenuators

Obviously notorious shitlib Fryette is secretly the president of anti-japenese racism, and it's literally for no other reason, and everyone is just being a big meany to tallcoolone and kicked his puppy because they prefer other products to the TAE
My point is that no other box can do what the TAE can do. Nothing is even close.

If it has tubes in it, it is not completely transparent. You know that man.

I'm pretty sure it's not the "coloring" of the tubes that makes the power station sound so good for attenuating tube amps, it's that having tubes reacting to real live speaker impedances obviously is going to sound really close to a tube amp.

It's not rocket science.

I’m far from as accomplished a musician as yourself but I’ve been playing through tube amps for about 40yrs—one thing I am sure of is that tubes color your tone. I am very happy with the tone and response I get from the TAE—again I’ve been buying and selling tube amps for decades. If the tone wasn’t there the add’l features wouldn’t mean anything.

Yeah, but where does Boss tell us this risk? That’s the point. Not everyone is on forums. In fact most aren’t. So if I buy a TAE and wind up the resonance and have a disaster, how is that cool or fair or reasonable. Yet Pete Thorn and John Suhr are in a conspiracy to discredit only your one particular device, not others?

Glad you enjoy your product, but you sound like you are in denial.
All I said was I thought it was interesting that Pete uses the TAE. I don't have one. My PPIVM sounds good to me.

He can call it what he wants, it still doesn’t mimic the impedence curve of an amp. Here is my 16 ohm hotplate at every setting, all switches ‘on’

The only one that looks like a speaker cab is the red line which is no attenuation.
How are you measuring the impedance curve? Is that REW?

I used a Juice Extractor (still have it) which sounded great. Used a Hotplate (still have it) like I used the Juice Extractor (as a load) which sounds great. Now have a PS2a which also sounds great.
Do they sound like the amp direct to a cabinet? If I wanted that, I would run it that way. If all you are gonna do is record and have an iso-room and that gets your results, just do that. Mic your cab shut the door and have at it.

I worked on a Fireball 25 yesterday with built in power soak. The whole back panel was lined with big white resistors. Looked like an old power soak….

I think that's where I am headed to be honest.. my Reload attenuator is def usable. Maybe cranked nobody could tell BUT when i go straight in nothing between speaker and power amp, it's so much better. So I am going to trial it in the closet under the stairs in my studio and see how it goes. There is a bit of space under the door so that should release the pressure build up and boxiness I think. It will really all depend on my wife complaining but if I record DI's and run them during the day on the days i work from home, I can use my reload the rest of the time.

The one appealing feature to the new mini waza as well besides the cost, is what you mentioned, all the features in one place. That's one i might try if my closet doesn't work out.

lol. I quoted the wrong person. Sorry man. That was meant for BennyHillFranklin, I mean tallcoolone. You caught an unintended haymaker in the melee.

Ahh good to see the same old names repeating the same old opinions that have been thoroughly debunked about TAEs frying amps

That ain't me. I was jpage on TGP until I got perma banned for getting in a pissing match with that Atomic/CLR speaker dbag.

Buy what you want man--we all have different wants and needs. I play different sized venues and the unique capabilities of this particular box makes playing and gigs much easier and much more enjoyable. I gush about it b/c it is probably the best piece of gear I've ever bought for guitar.

Ok. I’ll lay off. Just being stupid really. If you are loving it, that’s all that matters really. You’re amp may disagree, but that’s ok! 😛

tallcoolone should be a hero here for all the brawls he got into with the tan pants over at TGP. I used to enjoy seeing his posts over there back in the day. He was so popular I think he was getting gear to demo because he'd use it live with his band and post videos.

I wonder if he is still there? I finally put him on my ignore list and haven't heard about him since.

No clue. I don’t mind a good back and forth but that guy was 100% convinced his opinion was gospel. Selling $1700 pa speakers to dentists who really needed a $600 pair of studio monitors 🤦‍♂️

Lottery ticket, Russian roulette, rolling the dice…I’ve read all the dramatic verbiage lol. Again, one story on a geek board when who knows how many thousands are out there in rigs around the world.

I’ve fried transformers before—not with the TAE—and it cost me a few hundred dollars. If I ever do it with the TAE I’ll let u guys know.
so this is the unit, that my comment "a league of it's own" offended you over? A unit with rumors of frying stuff? I get that you like it, but why so aggressive? I don't go around defending Fryette. If something is better, I'm interested in hearing about it, not defending someone's product. :dunno:
