Paul is one of the nicest guy ever, It's impossible not to like the man. Yngwie on the other hand...

Yngwie was a fatty during that time , let's call it what it was. He also always takes himself seriously. He is still awesome though. What a special player. Gilbert is amazing but Yngwie is just on another level in terms of the genre he created.

Watching an Yngwie video is like watching the WWE. I want to like it but Yngwie is like watching someone just go speedy speedy. Imagine if his music had a substantial input from the other guys like the other great guys. I loved that shit, Jeff Beck. The WWE is 2 super tall monstrous fat guys dancing, not fighting. Imagine if they actually fought for real?

Yeah, they are both great players.

I still remember the first time that I had heard Malmsteem.

My buddy played the Steeler album on a really loud stereo at our place, and everyone just had their jaws drop when we heard his soloing.

Afterwards, every guitarist that I had thought sounded great just sounded kind of plain to me.

He really was something special.

Over time his personality and comments/attitude kind of made me lose interest in him but I can always appreciate those early albums since his playing really did raise the bar for me.

Same.. I think his playing, writing & personality suffered a bit after his accident

One thing for sure though, Paul has zero swag. Zero presence. Looks like a nerdy professor vs Yngwie still looking like a swash buckling pirate decked out in chains and gold. He lives and breathes the rock star life. Yngwie walks in the room and even if you didn't know him, you feel his presence. Paul walks in and it might as well be bingo night.
